I received this letter in the mail yesterday after requesting validation from MACY/GECC

    Dear ______ (the main creditor)

We understand that you may have not have opened the above referenced account number.

For our investigation, we ask that you and any authorized buyers foward a copy of two forms of identification bearing your signature to the address listed below. If the documentation is not received within 30 days, we must assume you no longer wish for us to investigate this matter.

If you have any questions regarding this matter or any information that you feel may assist us in our investigation, please phone or write to us at the number and address shown below.

    Sincerly,

    Jerkoff OC

    Mini miranda

    My questions:
Should I send this in to them?

They put the name of this person on the letter with my address, wtf, I called and they said that the letter is a standard form letter. Is this the normal way to process?

Is this just a way of them trying to extract money from me directly?

While I have not had anything like this happnen to me, I'd be very leery of them using the signature on the ID to create the paperwork needed for proof.

Although I don't know what else you could do ...

someone surely will have an idea.

    peace,
    delilah

Write them back requesting them to send YOU the proof of what they have. They have the burden of proof, not you. Once you have copies of sigs, etc, then you can go from there and proove to them that it isnt yours.

Well someone pointed out something very interesting to me, why should I help them validate an alleged liabilty. This account reads like this and take into account I am in CA

    Date Opened:
    06/1995
    Type:
    Revolving

    Reported Since:
    08/1996
    Terms:
    NA

    Date of Status:
    08/1997
    Monthly Payment:
    $12

    Last Reported:
    08/1997

It also states closed at credit grantors request. I have about 4 things to get off of my Experian. Right now they are refusing to re-investigate. I am going to send a nice little letter to their legal department requesting re-investigation as per the FCRA, they are obviously doing bogus investigations, this is the second company that has asked me for information, yet when I requested an investigation, it always and I mean always comes back verified.

I believe someone said that we should all get together and sue the heck out of experian, well I am definitely on that boat.

"I'M SORRY...I CAN'T INVESTIGATE THE ACCOUNT FOR YOU UNLESS YOU INCLUDE A CASHIER'S CHECK FOR $1,000 WITH YOUR REQUEST TO COVER MY TIME AND EXPENCES"
