Greetings. I have a debt with Discover Card that was charged off a year ago. I was in negotiations to settle the debt and making payments to the collector when it was charged off. I then stopped making payments and didn't hear from them for a year. I wrote to them a month ago offering to settle the debt and to please make their offer in writing. Well, of course, their offer came in the form a summons. Attached was a letter telling me to contact them via phone to settle the debt. So, actually, I'm looking for ideas for negotiating with the CA. I can pay a good portion of it. But I was hoping for some kind of break on the reporting. A deletion in my dream of dreams. Or whatever is best in terms of "paid" notations. Any suggestions for dealing the CA? Do I have to call as that is the only way they are willing to work with me? They might have me over a barrel as I really don't want a judgement on my report. Thanks for any ideas or thoughts. Sincerely, Kristine
