    Hello,

I have several revolving credit accounts which I have not made payments on for several years beyond the Statute of Limitations in my state. These accounts were showing on my credit report two years ago but now they are not.

I had heard cases of debt collectors changing dates to make it appear as though debts were still current. Because of this I have not attempted to obtain credit or increase my credit score. Now that the debts have completely vanished from my credit reports I am starting to wonder if it is safe for me to try to rebuild.

Is there a chance that the agencies which are still attempting to collect on these debts might manage to get them back on my credit report if my credit starts to show signs of life again? If so, how common is this? If there are any popular discussions on this topic here please point me to them.

I do not have copies of past reports and am not quite sure what I would need to do if a collector said that I made a payment a year ago and that a debt is still current. I wish I would have filed for bankruptcy years ago but this is where I am today.

    Thanks!
