I have a TL listed in my file for $152. I have offered to the collection company to pay the balance in return for a deletion.

They have refused. They said the account would be updated to "paid."

I have requested verification of the account by asking for copies of a signed contract, account statement or invoice. They have not been able to produce any records as the company has been purchased and the new company does not have any record of my account.

    What is my next step?

The collection company is saying that there are laws that prohibit them from deleting accounts upon payment.

I am not able to find any such laws.

    THAT IS A CRA LAW!!!!

NO JUDGE, JURY, STATE COURT, FEDERAL COURT HAS TO FOLLOW THAT LAW!!!

...and no company or consumer can be fined or put in jail for violating that law!!!
