happen to my utilization. Would it say that I had $0 credit limit with $XX balance? Kill my scores?

I think I want to terminate my relationship with providian. I don't think that it is going to matter how good I get my credit. They are still going to screw me.

Doesn't anyone know how this works?

    I'm dying to know too!

When I called them on the APR increase, they said they could close it now and keep my current APR (which is also excessive) until I finish clearing off the balance owed (approximately 1200$).

How will that report if I ask them to close it?

Down with Providian. Down Down Down. The more I think about it all, the more livid I get and yet, the more humor I find in it.

Well the way closed accounts with balances are reported on my reports, they are not taken into account in my balance to credit limit ratio. I am no expert but I believe there are other provisions in which these would still hurt you though. Like they are still taken into account when they figured up my avg. balance per account $ amount. As far as the scores go, I don't know if anyone understands the formulas enough to be able to tell you that.

Re: If I closed my providian what w

Thanks for the replies so far. However, I'm not as concered about the period when there's an outstanding balance on a closed account as I am about the closing itself.
For the long haul, how will it be reported? Closed by Consumer or Closed by Creditor?

And, now that I've done a PFB I'm worried they'll close it automatically! Of course, I didn't tell them to, but then again they're not making real sane decisions right now.

So, please, someone anyone with experience on this (especially anyone that has closed accounts with balances) please respond. I've never done this before, and I hate to assume the best out of Providian.

I would like to close the account tomorrow, but I definitely cannot pay the full balance by tomorrow. I'm shooting for end of this year for it to be completely paid off.

IF YOU CLOSE IT~~~"ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CONSUMER"

IF THEY CLOSE IT~~~"ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CREDIT GRANTOR"...but it has to be a legitimate reason, like a bunch of over-limits, or a bunch of lates...NOT BECAUSE THEY THINK YOU OWE TOO MUCH MONEY!!!

NEXTCARD HAD TO SELL OR CLOSE ALL THEIR ACCOUNTS...mine was not sold so it was closed...it says "ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CONSUMER"...

CLOSED WITH A BALANCE shouldn't hurt much as long as it is not too much...LIKE $5,000+

    Great! :)

I have no overlimits on my Providian, nor any lates. I paid one time on the same day by phone. There was no late fee, either. All the other times I've paid early. Woohoo!

It'll be closed tomorrow by phone. I hate to do it by phone, but I feel I have no choice given the Nov 1 deadline. How can I be sure they'll report it as Closed by Consumer when it's a phonecall?

"I NEED A LETTER THAT I CLOSED THE ACCOUNT AND IT WILL BE REPORTED AS ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CONSUMER"

    "ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CONSUMER"
    PAID/NEVER LATE
    BALANCE $0

    Thanks George!

Of course, the letter could never arrive, but I guess it won't hurt to request it. I have such a sleezy view of Providian right now. With my luck, I'll call and they'll neglect to close it down, charge me the high annual fee, and jack up my apr. :)
I so don't trust Providian right now. However, maybe they're really not that sleezy, and they're just cleaning their customer base. I'm dirty. :)

Ok, erm, maybe that came out wrong.
