I'm currently disputing an account that shows a balance with the original creditor AND the collection agency. Assuming the worst, if they don't get deleted (and I'm thinking they won't because orig. creditor updates every month and CA is Asset Acceptance) who should I pay? Normally I wouldn't pay either, but I need my Equifax report to show all my old charge-offs to be $0 balance for a mortgage loan we are going to apply for. However, this is reported the same way on all three of my reports! UGH.....

Also, if I pay the original creditor, does CA have to stop and delete? It seems weird because they both report balances with recent updates so I'm wondering why the orig. creditor didn't change to $0 when they sold the account. And if I pay CA, can orig. creditor still report balance and say I owe them? I'm very confused with this situation.

I am no expert at this but this is what happened when I was in a similar situation. What I did was pay off the original creditor, not even entertaining the CA. Then after it was paid off, I disputed the CA on my credit reports with the reason as paid thru orignal creditor, never dealt with this orgainzation. It worked for me, but I don't know if this is always the case.

I would NEVER pay the CA just for principle!!! I would try like they said to dispute the CA off after that, but just for simple reasoning I wouldn't pay the CA if they refuse to delete. Have you tried sending them an offer to delete for payment in full with a confidentiality agreement? I am working on several people's reports right now and have been successful with that with one CA. Both parties are now happy :)

Make agreement with original creditor for paid as agreed status on the tradeline.

Send letter to CA demanding they remove theier tradelins as you paid the acct with original creditor and they no longer have a right to report the acct.

get everthing in writing and send all mail crrr. never negotiate over the phone. only by mail.

Christi, what is a confidentiality agreement? I do plan on working with the original creditor if they will, or getting them to report the balance as $0 if they say they've sold the debt. Then I'd have to figure something out for the CA. I figure it's pretty old so either one will be thrilled I'm offering any money LOL.
