finally. They have pulled their last trick on me. I called a little over a week ago to see if I could get better terms and a LOC increase. Ended up talking to R, and said I was interested in BT. The gal said she would have to Xfer $1,000 at 19.99% first, then she would increase my LOC, lower my apr to 9.99%, and BT the rest. I figured what the heck I can Xfer it back after I get what I want, so I agreed. Yesterday the $1,000 BT hit. In today's mail I get a denial letter for the rest of the BT offer b/c they refuse to raise my LOC, and they cannot lower my rate at this time. They really don't get it. It's over. Don't tell me to PFB them, guys, cause AmEx and Citi do this stuff routinely without batting an eyelash. I don't believe, at this point, that I should have to go to all that trouble. I don't need the CrapOne. I just paid it off, and I will close it as soon as the payment posts.
I don't blame you Breeze. I closed my CapOne account a long time ago when they refused to report my Credit limit to the 3 CRA's. Cap One sucks compared to Citi. This Mr. Cooke shit is getting old also. All these posters raving how wonderful Mr. Cooke is.
I'm one of those people who rave about Mr. Cooke. If I was in a position to get a cc with a decent limit and apr. Then I would gladly close the account or "put it in the sock drawer" as George says. They do have good customer service compared to other companies. I am on the "citibank blacklist" and I wouldn't want a card from them ever!!! Breeze, do whatever you feel necessary especially when you are in a position do to so. When you have "good credit" you can close an account. But when you're in sub-prime hell you take what you can get!
Thanks for the support. I have watched and read the posts, and I felt that they might do right by me in the end, but it seems they want to treat me like sub-prime, no matter what. I no longer carry any balance with them, and that is what they want in order to give you stuff, but I have moved on, I think. And this is the third time I have had one of their reps tell me something that turned out not to be true. If R does not know their limits of authority, what good can they do me, LOL? This is not an "elitist" attitude - I am still grateful anyone extends me credit, and I don't take it lightly - I still have my PVN cards (although, If I can replace the $10,500 LOC, they will have to go soon also). At least they report the limit. With no balance on the CapOne, it has zero limit and zero balance - does me no good, probably is hurting me.
I just closed my Cap One account last week; I had been with CO for 4yrs. Before closing, I spoke to R which offered to lower my rate from 21.99% to 15.99% , increase my CL to $1000, and cut my $50.00 annual fee by halve. How could I resist such a tempting offer??? Right now, I have Citi with $18,000CL, prime+1.9%apr, and 4.9% BT for life. I told Cap One to give me Platinum card with $5,000 CL and 8.9 fixed rate. They said NO WAY, so I said GOODBYE! Thanks to Credinet for giving me the means to deal from a position of strength. For those members who are in subprime hell, keep working and learning and before you now it, you too will be able to say goodbye to these greedy subprime CCC.
shame on you guys, you know better than to use "R" with cap one. Mr Cooke is the only way to go. I can't believe you did it this way. You are not learning from others' posts. Use Mr Cooke. His job security is at stake if you call "R".
I just closed my CAP one too, they wouldn't unsecure it after 7 months. Got a big denial via MR Cook and PFB. Told them that instead of there $600 13.9% secured card, my $18000 CITI Platinum Prime +2.9% and my $6000 Chase Plat Prime +2.9%will have to do. My worst score is around a 680 for crying out loud. TU and Exp over 750. I told them to mail my 49.50 ASAP
I still need them for now but as soon as I can, I will drop. them. 2 years and $1000.00 credit line. I call for an increase but they say no. Next day I get a pre-approved platinum in th e mail. Same thing the next week. BUT I can't get a limit increase or the classic turned into a gold. BUT I can pay another annual fee for a toy platinum? I PFB'd a month ago but still can't reach Mr.Cooke via phone. Going..... going......
Mr. Miller was the bomb .. apparently he is gone and so is the red carpet treatment... sadly all good things end... I will call one more time for better terms, if not available, I will begin eliminating my Cap One cards.
I'm sorry to hear everyone is having such a hard time with CapOne. I have my CapOne MC that went from classic to gold. From a $750CL to $4300 in about a year. I wanted a Citi but they're rate wasn't the best. And my CapOne rate was lowered to 16% from 21%. Go figure. Breeze...you don't have to take that! Take that good credit and go elsewhere!
Although I've closed a Capital One account myself, I like them a lot. Reasons being: 1. They were the first to give me a card (without assessing rip-off fees). 2. Their "R" would be the first to offer me 12.9% APR - when the Prime was still sky high. 3. Customer service is good to very good. However, if you remember the golden rules you won't be disappointed: 1. If your score improved from subprime to prime, in most cases you would need to close your account. They are more likely to approve an application for a new prime product than upgrade an existing subprime account. 2. Any credit card company screws up every now and then and makes promises it cannot deliver. The question is, how often it does so and how badly you were hurt. 3. Do not be afraid to ask for a Supervisor, Retention Agent, or the Consumer Advocate; However, try to follow corporate hierarchy whenever possible. Saar
I've been trying to close my account w/o success. There is some company that is billing $9 each mo and while Cap One closed the account one mo. they reopened it after the $9 hit. I reported fraud and Cap One will investigate, but refuse to close the account until it is 0 balance for over 30 days. I called the company who charged me and they say they will credit the past and current 9$. I'm pissed at Cap One. I wrote them a letter stating I never authorized the $9 charge and they wrote me back that they can't close my CC until I close my account with the fraudulent company. I hate Cap One.
Michael, it's AG time - those fraudulent credit card bills are a no no. I would file a complaint - this is most likely from their non-stop telemarketing.
Chapter 2 well, not really. Just their latest offer deserves some cute comments I got an offer that says "take control of your finances for only $49 a month! It's a personal loan for $1,322 for a three year term. Helloooooooooo!! I think that should read "lose control of your finances for a low fixed monthly payment of $49.
I too am in Sub Prime hell. Cap One has been NOTHING but fair to me. Low interest, they don't ding you right away for being 1 or 2 dollars over the limit, they don't charge for using their online payment system, customer service at least HAS SOME clue, they don't oversell me on crap the way a certain CC company whose name starts with a Pro does, Mr. Cooke rules, they have fixed mistakes made quickly, I had a fraudulent charge and they took care of it ASAP, and on and on. I understand people's frustrations. I have dumped Providian, FCNB AND First Premier as they just take and take and treat me like second class. Cap One OTH, does not. They aren't perfect, but I appreciate them not treating me like a loser and giving me a decent service when they could pull all of the crap that PROVIDIAN and FIRST PREMIER pull. In other words, I would probably bail on them if I COULD get a Citibank or MBNA card, but alas, I make good money and don't really care if I have $1000 or $10000. As long as I have something for my business purposes. I applaud anybody who tries to get more and cancels ANY card for not being on the level be it Cap One or Providian or whoever. Our dollars are the new political clout in this country and companies will learn to accept this or be voted out of existence. NEXTCARD and FCNB are learning this...
1*That's the way to do it.Don't give them our money until they clean up their act. 2*The ones who don't do not deserve to be in business. 3*Ther are many many other other businesses that need to learn the the same thing & we should be teaching it to them by witholding our DOLLARS !
