I just got off the phone w/my credit union which has my secured card. After 20 months of perfect payment history, I attempted to unsecure my card. They came back to me with a firm denial stating that my report had collections and other things. You would think after almost 2yrs of perfect payment, they would look past that. Sorry for venting. Now they have upset me to the point that this is now my calling. I'm now going to empower myself to regain my credit life back!!!
Do you have a savings account with them??? Ask if they "LOCK" like $500 on the savings account could they UNSECURE the credit card??? The only problem is if you needed money out of the savings account...you MUST leave $500 or more in it...
Call back and talk to someone else. If that doesn't work, ask to speak to a supervisor. It might even help to go there in person. I had a similar situation with our bank, when they wouldn't give us a debit card because of our CR. I was mortified! We had just moved from out of state, and had maintained a very good relationship with our bank "back home" even with our stinky credit. SO.....I go into our new bank and talk to a rep. I was REALLY nice, but firm. "I'm very disappointed we weren't able to get a debit card with our new checking acct. We've had one with our other checking acct. for several years. We're wanting to place $3500 in a savings and close our old accts., but if we can't even get a debit card I just don't see that it's worthwhile to continue a relationship with this bank." Worked like a charm.
Re: Re: I'm mad as h---! I'm pretty sure it's standard procedure to run a credit check. They did at our previous bank too; but it wasn't a problem at that time in our lives.
Re: Re: I'm mad as h---! USAA does not run a credit check. They use telecheck only and you get a Mastercard Debit card with 1% cash back if you press credit for your purchases. If you want to open an account they are pretty much an online bank. Most people think you have to be military to join. Not true for banking. You just call and ask for a membership number. Tell them you want to open a checking account online. Once you have the membership number they can open the account right over the phone, they check telecheck right then. They tell you if there is something on telecheck. If you get it resolved or put in dispute call back and they will open the account for you. The best part is they also DO NOT use chexsystems at all. Here is the link: https://www.lc.usaa.com/inet/lcs_corp/Logon You MUST call to get a member number. The website will say you are not eligible. Hope this helps someone.
