Bankruptcy is big business. I'm really surprised at how many people file bankruptcy and are in court every day. My court date was the 15th at 10:30am. They were behind and at 10:30 they were still working on the 9;30 people. I had to wait 2 hours before it was my turn. The man was asking questions to verify everything that was on file. An average of 2 minutes per person, unless creditors were there to contest the bankruptcy. Even then, it was no longer than 4 - 5 minutes. 2 hour wait, 2 minutes up front and out the door on the way home. It's been so peaceful lately since the phone calls have stopped 100%.
Wow...I don't know exactly what the final numbers were for 2009, but personal bankruptcies were expected to surpass 1.4 million. I suspect 2010 will be even worse as another wave of foreclosures hit across the country and unemployment continues to rise. Glad to hear you're enjoying the peace and quiet though, and best of luck to you as you work to rebuild your credit over time. Please come back and visit often, ask questions, and share your experience along the way. I'm sure there will be many here who can learn a great deal from your experiences.
