Well... To make a long story short, I recently discovered an open collection on my credit report from Cavelry Investments from a Mobil credit card that was settled a long time ago. The only proof of the settlement I had was a copy of my credit report with a note in the Mobil tradeline that said "Account legally paid in full for less than full balance". I sent Cavalry a validation letter two weeks ago only to have it come back to me as undeliverable. Since I'm working on getting a mortgage and time was of the essense I decided to go ahead and call Cavalry today and see what we could work out over the phone. They said to fax them proof that the Mobil debt was satisfied. I went ahead and faxed them a copy of the Mobil tradeline from my credit report and underlined the part that said "Account legally paid in full". I figured that they probably would laugh and say that this was no proof, but to my surprise they said "No problem... I'll mark that the account was satisfied before we bought it and delete it from your records". I asked him to fax proof that it was gone and he said that he could only do that after the account had been updated in their computers and that I should call back tuesday with a fax number, so I'm kind of holding my breath until then, but this is really really good news for me The other good news is that in the whole process I spoke with a Mobil rep to see if he could provide proof of the settlement for me to send to Cavalry. He told me that they have absolutely no records from my account anymore. He said everything was transfered to Cavalry when they bought the debt. I said "If you have no records, then if I would dispute this account with the credit bureaus it would go away because you can't verify it" and he said that was absolutely correct. So this means that once the Cavalry thing is gone I can go ahead and dispute the Mobil TL and get that removed. Since that's showing up as a settlement I'm sure it's bringing my score down too. This is such a happy day for me I still have a bunch of lates on my report, but if I can get rid of the settlement and the open collection I think I'll be much better off. I also sent out some goodwill letters a few weeks ago to work on some of the lates, so with any luck I'll get some of them removed. The last thing I want to work on is my a Chrysler Financial account, but I'll start another thread with those details later. Thanks for all of your help, Brett

Any time you get a COLLECTION REMOVED you should dispute with the Oct afterward. ******************************** Optimist and the Pessimist --------------------------- Two friends, one an Optimist and the other a Pessimist, could never quite agree on any topic of discussion. One day the Optimist decided he had found a good way to pull his friend out of his continual Pessimistic thinking. The Optimist owned a hunting dog that could walk on water. His plan? Take the Pessimist and the dog out duck hunting in a boat. They got out into the middle of the lake, and the Optimist brought down a duck. The dog immediately walked out across the water, retrieved the duck, and walked back to the boat. The Optimist looked at his Pessimistic friend and said, "What do you think about that?" The Pessimist replied, "That dog can't swim, can he? THE END ** *** ** LB 59
I finally got Calvary to agree to take mine off this week as well. I had sent certified letters and disputed and everything even harassed Geno Archer when I finally talked to him on Wednesday it took about 30 minutes but he agreed to delete. Suing because of $67 seemed a little silly to me. Congrats on your success.
Huge Congrats Brett. We're seeing a lot of successes in the last few days. I'm wondering if we have a new CHOD season here. Early Spring?
I'm even more happy right now. The rep told me to call back next week to request faxed confirmation that the account was closed, but I got impatient and called back today. He faxed it right over and I am now holding in my hand proof that they will delete the TL from my credit reports Thanks again to everyone who helped, Brett
