Hi all. I'm very new to this forum. In fact, I only just found creditnet 3 days ago. I've been reading thru the forums, and I'm glad to see that there is hope for me to maybe clean up my credit situation. I actually requested a copy of my credit report for the first time, because I could not understand how my credit could be in such horrible shape. It had never really occured to me that there might be entries on my report that were wrong, or that should not be there. I got a copy of my report from Experian, and attempted to decipher it. Let's just say I put it down, took a nap, then went back to try to make some sense out of it, later. I noticed several errors on my EX report. Under the 'Personal Information / Names' section, there were a couple of names that were not mine. I can understand misspellings, but this one was not even close (the first name was correct, but the last name was completely different). Also, there were accounts that I'd payed off years ago that were there. I plan to file a dispute, but, do I have to dispute one thing at a time or can I dispute several errors at once? Also, how do I get that wrong name removed? My apologies for the really long post, but, I seriously want (and need) to get a handle on my credit and clean it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey, Your report can't be that bad if you can sleep ;-) I have personally found that you can call to get deletions of incorrect names. Paid off positive accounts stay for 10 years. Negative/collection agency paid off accounts stay for 7 years unless you can somehow get them deleted. I am unsure about how many is the correct amount to dispute at one time. I lucked out and do about 5 on each report at once. It is up to you, you will find your niche. Nothing wrong with a long post, it is better to have alot of information about your situation. I forgot, good luck.
>> Manequinne - My credit isn't bad, it's just VERY mischievous ;-) LOL Manequinne, thanks for responding so quickly. Is it a good or bad idea to dispute items via the credit bureau's online website? I'd prefer to do it that way because it's easier, but, I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to clean things up. -zippy
Thanks for liking my line. It was that, or my credit is so bad, I wanna cry...... ;-) Seriously, I personally think it is better to do it online, because you get instant confirmation they received it, and you don't have to depend on the mail, etc. Also, you save about 5 days in my opinion (the mail). And the best part, they can't say they didn't receive it......
Zippy - How does it feel to be in the marvelous world of credit repair now? LOL I've had very good luck disputing thru the online systems so far. The only thing you have to watch is what you can dispute on a specific CRA's website - some will let you do personal info disputes, some won't, some aren't as clear as to what you can do, etc. It just takes a little reading and experimenting. Save the File #, you can go back and check the dispute progress and sign up for e-mail notification with Experian, anyway. Anything you can't dispute online you can dispute via phone or mail. Good luck and keep us posted !
How does it feel? In all honesty, I wish that I'd taken the blue pill Well, I submitted a few requests for investigations on the EX site...Will keep you all posted. Thanks for the assistance. -Zippy
Welcome! You might want to order your other 2 rpts if you haven't done so already. Often times each rpt has some different information and you have to correct each rpt separately for the most part.
When (inevitably) they screw it up, you will kick yourself for not communicating with them only through the mail. Make a paper trail.
I did request a copy of my report from TU, and they sent me a "Proof of Address" form letter. Is that standard? I did recently move from one state to another. I haven't gotten anything from EQ as of yet. Also, are there template dispute, validation letters floating around this forum? I wouldn't use it ver batim, I just need an idea of what I should include in the letters.

If you moved, Transunion wants to make sure you are you. (does that make sense?) ;-) Letters are here: http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=25 Lbrown59. I love they way he gets to the point!!! ;-)
