I'm watching you

Here are my comments on the current flap about the CRA's watching this board. I have always used a hotmail account with a fake name when posting here so I could not be traced. I am not paranoid, just careful. They are free and easy to set up. None of the info is verified so you can put down anything you want.

Those of you who have read my posts know I do not like NCO, a collection agency. There is a collector who posts regularly on this board (he admitted he is one). Based on what he has said, I am convinced he works for NCO. So I have been careful what I say.

Once, I let my guard down. I posted a request for some student loan info on consolidation. I got a lot of good info. One individual emailed me saying he did this kind of work and would give me a good quote. I gave him my real name, phone number and other info by email. Then I never heard from him and he disappeared from the board. So, someone has all my real ID.

The point is this. Stay secret so this does not come back to haunt you.

One more thought. Just because we are paranoid does not mean they are not watching us.

    Tom,
I think that most of US have NOTHING to be paranoid about. I think TU, EQ, and EX have PLENTY to be paranoid about.

I agree. I don't do anything online that I wouldn't do in person. But then, (to my knowledge) I don't have anyone looking for me, hehe.

I think this proves that one size definitely doesn't fit all.

Some people may need to remain incognito, especially if they want to discuss strategies for how to handle their outstanding lawsuits, late-pay or defaulted debts, potential bankruptcies, etc.

Other people may want to use their real names because that may prove beneficial in standing up for what's right, defending the First Amendment, publicly holding CRAs and CAs to task, etc.

The bottom line is that each of us must clarify our goals, decide what we hope to achieve by participating here, and then act accordingly. Some of those decisions will be about the degree to which we will or won't remain anonymous. And, of course, it's perfectly fine -- actually, desirable -- that we base those decisions only upon our own individual situations.
