does anyone think sending the validation letters will "Wake the Beast"?

1*I believe validation letters almost always 'wake the beast'.
2*If you just dispute the accounts with the CRA's you have less of a chance of waking them.

One rainy evening, my husband, John, and I emerged from a restaurant
only to find that he had locked the keys in the car. He insisted he
could open the door with a wire coat hanger, so we went back to the
restaurant to get one. There were none to be found.

John then ran to a department store a quarter-mile away and returned
with a hanger. After a few attempts, he got the door open and we climbed
in. As we sat there, soaked and cold, he stuck the hanger under his seat.
With a smug grin, he said, "Now if this ever happens again, I'll have
    one."

1*Thanks for the replies, I tried just disputing with the CRA in 2000, on a medical bill for $86, and it came back verified.....it's still on my CR until 2005.
2*....but was wondering what my chances of having them come after me again for payment might be. $86 is not much $$$, but the other two COs are around $500.

You need to read and reread the validation threads so that you understand what it is why you do it and how it works.

Trust me, the other CRA's will fall in line when they compare their information on you with Equifax's.

It may sound like dissinformation to u people but I am the one sitting here with a 781 FICO score so I must have done something right.

However, I will admit I did give bad advice on the CRA's checking up on each other - they don't. So I will retract that.

I still say do not waste your time writing letters when a phone call will do. Sorry, people but that has worked for me many times and my credit went from very bad to very good.

I have seen you people gang up on posters who don't share your extremely narrow points of view and I want you to know -- you don't faze me at all.

Continue to do what works for you and I will continue to do what works for me, ok? *smooches*

SoParkDiva, my "good lord" was directed at you-know-who, not you. That individual is clearly missing a few IQ points.

I'm not sure who you mean. But if it's going to cause hard feelings or hurt anyone then please don't tell me. I'm sure I'll figure out who you-know-who is eventually =)

The truth is our 'extremely narrow" points of view WORK! The reason I know they work is time and time again NEW people come here looking for help and then return with the success stories they have achieved using our "narrow" minded ways.

You can sit here and tell us about your great FICO and how your BAD advice works but I do not hear people singing your praises explaining to the rest of us how your advice to just "not get served" worked for them and how default judgments they received from following your advice has done wonders for their credit scores.

Or the fact that they *only* call the CRA to dispute has worked great when the CRA tells them they never received their dispute and they now have NO paper trail to follow up with and possible get a deletion.

Oh wait maybe we have not heard from any of your â??believersâ? because we need to wait here another 7 years while the people that you told to do "nothing" and just sit on their hands until the 7 years is up finally come back and tell us that it really does work if you wait seven years your bad items will start to fall off. **DUH**

You have given nothing but bad advice and the very worst part of all of it is that you do not care if you are damaging another personâ??s chances at getting their credit improved.

Well, it worked for me. Isn't one success story good enough for you? =)

Oh, btw this board is littered with posts from people who took your advice (not you, personally) and they come back here saying it didn't work for them and what happens - they're posts go unanswered and fall off the first page.

So, please - none of us are perfect. I am not giving advice, I am simply stating what I did to improve my credit. It may be unconventional but it worked for me. You continue to do what works for you. *smooches*

The *only* reason I continue to reply to you is in the hopes that all of the new people that come to this board will read your BAD advice and then read the replies to your non-sense and understand the CORRECT steps to use if they wish to clean up their reports.

As far as the board being littered with posts from people who are not getting results this may be true but there is not just one step if you do not get results with the first step then you go onto the next and so on but I would not expect someone with your lack of correct credit repair knowledge to understand this!

The biggest problem I have with what you post is not that it worked for you but that you are giving this advice to others. You even admit it is "unconventional". It is definitely not something that a person who is already in credit hell should try to use unless they wish to add more problems for themselves.

When you are first new here this site can be overwhelming there is enough to learn here without having someone like yourself post that they should just â??not be servedâ? and get a "default judgment" or never to write ANY letters etc. They need REAL advice that can help them get back on their feet.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Inactive collection accounts on CR

Well, we agree to disagree. All I'm saying is you have 2 options here:

    1. Do not pay anything & wait the 7 years (or however many years you have left until the item comes off your credit report)

    or

    2. Agree to the CA's terms and pay off your debts

Whatever works for you, do it. I did nothing illegal. I stayed within the law.

    SoParkDiva,

    Hey,, I am all ears!

So what you are saying is you went from below 600 to 781 by just calling, disputing and they all fell off?

Not even a dime out of your pocket?

    THAT is an AMAZING story!!!

I have read that people have tried disputing first only to have to move onto Validation letters later.

I have also read too many times people calling in disputes and it coming back verified or falling off only to have it reappear verified later.

I also have read that by creating a paper trail and catching mistakes I may have a chance to get the ball in my court.

I have never read anyone but you going from very bad to very good by only calling in disputes.

Were you lucky or what did you do different from all the other CNers that have tried unsuccessfully to dispute by calling first.

    Thanks,
    Gretchen

Very nice post, Gretchen. =) I went from mid 400's to 750+ after all my negative items fell off my report. And you are correct, I called in my disputes - at 6 years and 6 months - because that was my right. The few negative items were removed - because it was time for them to come off.

I did not dispute until the items were due to fall off. So there was no need for me to go into any further "steps". Had I done this 3 years ago - I would have been disappointed because the items would have come back verified. The law was behind me. They had no choice but to remove the items.

3 months ago, I did have to dispute a 30 days, 3 times late that my auto creditor placed on my reports but that was an error. I called and disputed - it came back verified. The bank sent me a letter stating I was current and on-time with my payments - never late. I called the CRA's again. The item came off.
