Does anyone have suggestions how to challenge these accounts? Especially with Experian? Most of the accounts have the wrong Bankruptcy dates (mine was discharged in 1999). Can I challenge on the basis of an account reporting the bankruptcy in 2000 or saying it is a chapter 11,12 or 13--(the account doesnt specify what type it was; it was a 7). These seem to be the absolute toughest in getting removed from what I've read. Can anyone share some success tips? Thanks.
Dispute it -- I never filed for a bankruptcy in 2000. I never filed for a chapter 13 bankrupcty (if you filed a 7) I never filed for a chapter 7 bankruptcy (if you filed a 13) You don't have to tell them when you did file, that's their job ;-). I just disputed mine as inaccurate because it had been discharged. They updated the tradeline to include the dispute date as the discharge date. Now I'm disputing, I never had a bankruptcy discharged in 2002. Sassy
oh irish, I'm sorry, I hope you didn't read that I thought you to be dense, I certainly don't and didn't mean to imply that. It has to be 100% accurate, every detail. If something is reported it has to be right. I've noted from previous posts that some have been successful in removing the tradeline because it listed $0 assets and $0 liabilities -- disputed as: I never filed a bankruptcy with 0 assets and liabilities . I was inclined to dispute and give them the correct information myself, however, if they are truly verifying the information and have access to the courts, online or however, they surely have access to the limited information included in a BK tradeline. No. I didn't take it the wrong way. I just have a tough time looking at this garbage and saying where do I begin? How do I phrase it? What is not right about this account? Does it really make a difference in the stupid FICO score? Will it really make them just delete it rather than correct it? I really appreciate the tidbits you offered. Thanks.
Best advice, I think, is posted by Sassy above. I did this, also disputed as inaccurate dates, or if they had a balance showing (obviously that couldn't be right !), balance inaccurate. Of 14-16- accounts, the online disputes with the CRA produced total deletions, rather than corrections. There are five tradelines left that are BK related. They vary somewhat from CRA to CRA, but Dillards/Bealls/Foley's all updated with correct information, and are remaining among the negative listings. DO NOT , DO NOT be tempted to send the CRA copies of your filing, schedule F, or discharge papers as an initial attempt to get these deleted. There's a recent thread that listed individual's own worst mistakes in Credit Repair, and sending in BK papers is listed in there several, several times. I will try to find the thread and post it again.
The brain is on overload but I did go thru the Experian report and challenged the "included in BK" accounts. Many of them had my bk lasting from 99 to 2001--I am thinking correctly that the EXP software picks up the date, such as 2001, and hits you hard for recent bad behavior? That would explain why more EX score is so much worse than EQ or TU. Thanks to all for the insight. You were great.
I thought I read somewhere on this board too that if you dispute BK accts in the sixth year, ninth month they get deleted. Wish I could remember who wrote that! I know that doesn't really help at the moment but just some additional info. I've got a few that will be that age next month and I plan to dispute them then. We'll see what happens.
