Hi all! I somehow stumbled upon a link which appears to be an index of almost every collection company out there. It only gives the company name and address - no phone numbers - but I thought it might be helpful. Here is the link: http://www.state.tn.us/commerce/reports/collect/3502/active_disk1_3502.txt If anyone has trouble accessing this, just drop me an e-mail and I can send it to you as a word document. Hope this is helpful!
I did a little more research and I believe this is a list of CA licensed in the state of TN. After I re-read the post it kinda occurred to me that there are more like thousands of CA (blame it on newbie syndrome, he he). But it does lead me to another question.... are CA required to be licensed in your state in order to collect? I live in MI (and NO I am not associated with pulse or the collector, I swear!) and found out that 2 CA are not licensed in MI. Any advice? I'm still doing my homeworK (for about 2 months now) and want to proceed very cautiously!
Most states require licensing but not all states. Ohio, my state for example, requires nothing. No license, no bond, no nuthin If you're in a state that does require it they best NOT be collecting unless they are.
PA is the same as Butch's state in that you need nothing to get started and operate. What a crock!! Guess I'll open up a "Collection Validation and Removal Agency" next week to combat these CA's. If they can open their business without licensing why can't I?? I can send out validation and nutcase letters for clients!! LOL!! I can send letters to them like this..... "The collection of this alleged debt has been turned over to this agency to handle all issues concerning this matter. Unless within 30days you can provide competent legal proof and validation to this office that the debt you allege is true, this office will assume that the validity of this debt to be invalid and must advise your company of it's removal from any and all credit repositories and the immediate ceasing in the collection of said alleged debt." "This Correspondence is from a Collection Validation Agency, this is an attempt to validate an alleged debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose." "This Collection Validation Company does not need to be licensed or bonded in this state to do business and thus we can do whatever we please!" "This communication is from a debt Validator" So what'ya think?? Business worth starting?? Tac
lolol, I LOVE it. Don't forget to include the line; "Ignoring this validation demand will NOT make it go away." Let's go!
I beg to differ about PA. I called PA Corporations office. You MUST be licensed to do business in PA - even collection agencies. That is how I got Medclr deleted. They are not licensed to do business in PA. (Plus NCO does their work and it is illegal for them to operate under any other name but their own!)
Can you explain what you mean by NCO does thier work for them. I have two accounts reporting as MedCl. I am using my TransUnion report. TU doesn't report thier address. Once I verify if they are licensed to do business in VA, do I just notify the bureau that they are operating business illegally and request deletion?
scmomof5, Could you please tell me where or who you contacted in regards to collection agencies having to be licensed in PA?? I contacted the AG's office and was informed by an attorney there that they are NOT required to be licensed and that only their name of the company has to be registered with the department of state. Also check this link out.....http://www.lawdog.com/states/pa/st1c.htm I really hope you are right because this would be great! Thanks! Tac
