My experience with having inquiries removed: Equifax: Upon receipt of my dispute they delete the inquiry immediately. No questions asked. They don't even bother asking the creditor if they should remove it. I faxed my request into Equifax and within 3-4 days the inquiries were all gone. I started with almost 30 inquiries and now down to 3 inquiries. Experian: They will ask you "if you did not authorize this inquiry then it was fraud, yes?" You must state yes otherwise they won't investigate the inquiries. Still waiting on Experian to respond. Trans Union: There were never enough inquiries to dispute. Not many creditors use Trans Union.
Once you tell Exp yes it was fraud, you also end up with fraud alerts on all 3 reports. Something to keep in mind.
I've had Verizon Wireless, DMB (credit limit increase), BofA and Chase pull TU in the last six months - I live in Boston.
Living in California I have had three inquiries on TU. Merrick Bank, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile. Most companies seem to like Equifax. At least all the good creditors Who I really want to get an account with is MBNA but that might take another couple years.
