What's the difference between hard and soft inquiries? Do both lower your credit score or just the hard ones?

"soft inquiries" are not viewed by other creditors only by you, these are not counted against you, Hard inquires are seen by other creditors and do have a impact on your score.

So, are the inquiries you make about your own credit hard or soft?

If you ask for a "credit report" it is a "SOFT" (not held against you)...if you apply for credit, it is a "HARD" (held against you for like 6 months).

"Hard" inquires stay on the report for two years.
