What kind of inquiry is done by the cc company if one asks for a credit line increase? Soft or hard inquiry? CC is AOL Visa (Bank One).

Is it different for every CC company is it virtually the same with each one of them?

    Thanks..

    SHOULD BE NONE!!!

    Ask for a "PRE-APPROVED" CLI---NO INQUIRY!!!

It is not worth a 7 point HIT...(just my opinion)

    They do AR's EVERY MONTH...they don't need a HARD!!!

    • Doesn't matter who the creditor is, it's the credit line increase that counts.

The AR and CLI are done by different departments. One has no idea what the other one has seen of your report. Since you have an account with them, they can pull soft. However, because this is about an additional amount of credit, they do have the PP for a hard, and usually they do a hard.

As for the pre-approved offer - it ain't gonna work, but that's a different story ...

YOU MUST BE NEW TO CREDIT---"PRE-APPROVED" CLI IS ALL I ACCEPT!!!

    • You may accept it, but you cannot ask for it as you previously said. That's the whole meaning of the pre-approval.

    • George ...

      1. "Pre-approved" means you are approved in advance, prior to, earlier than you ask for it. They have some information about you, you match some criteria they look for, they send you a "pre-approved" offer. If you ask them without this offer, it would be a "approval", not "pre-approval".

      2. When you get the "pre-approved" offer, it doesn't give you the credit - you still have to apply for it, which will give them the PP for a hard.

    WHAT-EVER...

I AM STILL GOING TO DO IT MY WAY...YOU DO IT YOUR WAY...YOU TAKE A HARD...I WON'T!!!

    "I NEED A CLI---NO INQUIRY"

I guess I have been doing it WRONG for 25+ years...
