Here is a reply posted to another thread where I asked about SUPPRESSED items affecting your score: Re: What to do About SUPPRESSED items? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DaveLV | 1186 posts since Mar 2001 24.234.73.227 | 03.23.2002 @ 15:40 There was no change in my score. The suppressed item was showing on my copy of my TU report when I applied for my mortgage last month. It did NOT show on the report my mortgage lender pulled. It was deleted last week. This pretty much proves to me that: 1. SUPPRESSED items do not factor into your score 2. Creditors do not see them -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK. So we can leave SUPPRESSED items alone and don't have to waste energy trying to get them removed. But what about Unrated/Unclassified items (TU & EQ use the term "Unrated" whereas EX uses "Unclassified")? To my knowledge these items ARE seen by others when a credit report is pulled. But apparently they do not affect one's score? Anyone have anecdotal evidence like DaveLV above that will demonstrate whether Unrated/Unclassified items will affect your score? And whether it is worth the effort to get them removed?
My husband just had an unrated repo removed and it had NO effect on his score. It also didn't have an effect when it was reinserted, so we leave these alone, UNLESS we are applying for a mortgage, or anything that has a manual review.
Thanks for the response, KHM. But there may have been other factors affecting why your scores didn't change. For instance if the repo was 6 years old, the age of the acct itself may have been outweighted by your newer accts, and therefore no effect was seen in your score. I don't in any way disregard your experience, I would just like to see a series of reports from others, whether on SUPPRESSED items like Dave above, or on Unrated/Unclassified items like yours. Thanks again for your input (also appreciate your comments in other threads). Can anyone add to these examples?
I have two on EQ that are unrated, but they decided to reage the CCB account (yup...same one I'm fighting with EX on because they reaged it) by two years and it dropped my fico by more than 40 points!!!!! L
I think it's all a luck of the draw, score wise. Hubby paid a charge off that was 6 months old, he had an average 40 point jump, when he got this paid charge off deleted 2 months later, his score raised 3 points. Not to go way off topic here, but I honestly think that at least paying a CO will help your score a lot, although I only recommend paying them if you have exhausted ALL other methods (trying for deletion, suing what have you). However paying a collection is a totally different story, if you can't get it deleted, paying it doesn't make a difference. This is from my overall experience, including old debts, new debts, CO's, Collections (new and old) late pays.
L, are you indicating that the appearance of two Unrated accounts on your CR dropped your score by 40 points?! Are you sure the Unrated listings are what brought your score down? If you are sure, then we have anecdotal evidence that Unrated listings DO indeed affect your score (or at least can in some instances).
I have posted a question about unrated items... mine, however, should be positive tradelines - paid, never late- but they remain unrated. If I decide to dispute these, I will let you know how it turns out.
BurnaDebt- So maybe this is proof positive that unrated accounts HURT your credit score, see marci's post: http://consumers.creditnet.com/stra...s=&postid=138200&highlight=unrated#post138200 I am going to dispute for the change from "unrated" to "paid as agreed" on my 3 unrated entries (these should be positive) in my next set of disputes, but knowing my luck with TU this will drop my score
OK, so maybe now I have to take that back. Just looked at CE this morning and saw that an old unrated collection I sent validation to had been removed by the collection agency... no change in score BUT, it was 6 years old and was a very, very small collection. In anycase, I am going by this rule: 1) Derog that is unrated: does not hurt score, do not dispute with cra as this may lead to it being rated and then it WILL hurt score. 2) Postive items unrated: may or may not hurt score, but definitely will HELP score if you get these updated to "paid as agreed, never late."
