I want to know, when a person goes into a department store, ex Mervyns, I saw a sign that said if you had a major credit card they would give you instant credit. How do they check if you are current or past due without running a report on you.

    Tito,

Unfortunately, they do run a report on you. It takes a couple minutes to fill out the application (or the clerk will look at your driver's license and major credit card for this information) and the clerk will call it in to the credit dept at the store you are applying at. The credit dept will pull your report and say yea or nay and for how much. Hope this helps.
