I will have to disagree with the police officer on insurance fraud.Just because you are behind on your payments does not say you commited fraud by crashing your car.Insurance fraud is very hard to prove, allways has been allways will be.Los Angeles is the hub for rear end accidents. If you rear end me the law say it is your fault because you were following to close. The insurance can say you cause the accident by stopping to quick,5 months behind in payments. Then the insurance company must prove the case.It will cost the insurance company about $10,000 to start to prove the case. The subject that was hit goes to a doctor and get a lawyer the insurance company want to talk. The lawyer say we want $20,000 all bills paid closed case. This case will not be put into the IADIB

P.S. In Ca along rear end accidents cost about $500 million per year.

Yes, insurance fraud is very hard to prove but there are successful prosecutions for it everyday.

For the record what I meant when I said getting behind in payments, that in and of itself wouldn't raise red flags per say as being a motive for one to commit fraud.

What I do mean is that your financial situation and paying history will be a part in what is investigated and not the whole basis to claim a person committed fraud.

Yes, again fraud is very hard to prove and alot of people get away with it.

To me it is killing all of us good law abiding citizens who have to pay higher insurance premiums to make up the cost of what the insurance compainies are paying in fraudulent losses.

It just isn't worth the risk!

The thing that was so crazy about the orginal thread is you can get killed at 35mph. To heck with can you get away with an insurance scam!

A friend of mine in college stayed up for 2 nights cramming for finals. He finished his last exam about 4 P.M. and started his drive to his hometown about 150 miles away. Apparently he fell asleep and plowed into a tree at about 35mph {according to the State Trooper report} and was killed. Damn, what a nutty idea.

Not only that, but even your post is a violation of the TOS on this, and every board, because you are asking for advice about how/whether to commit a crime.

A lot of insurance companies will offer you a low ball settlement to end the case because it's cheaper than court and they know most people will take a low ball offer if they are behind in payments.

Basically, the insurance company takes the cheapest way out.
