Check my TU report today to find out that the comparison shopping I did last week earned me a HARD from AIG insurance (worthless bastards!). To add a twist to it, the name they have listed for the inquiry has three numbers after the first name they have listed (xxxxxxx078) so should I dispute it as "not mine" since it's obviously incorrect? Another thing I thought about (since I didn't provide my SS# to them), what's to stop some malicious idiot off the street from picking a person in the phone book (or even somebody they know) and rack up a ton of hards on that person without their even knowing it (being that the identity checking is lax at best)?
I'm not sure about disputing the inquiry, but I've been shopping for homeowner's insurance this past week, and let me tell you, they _all_ say, "oh yeah, we can give you a quote without a credit inquiry." They _all_ lie. Allstate was the worst--not only do they want an arm and a leg for their policy, but they gave me TWO hards, three days apart. I never once gave my SSN, and with each company I made SURE to specify that if they wanted to hit my CR, I didn't want their insurance. Still, at least half of the companies I called put an inquiry one place or another--most of them on my already suffering TU. I would dispute these if I thought it would do any good, but I've gotten tired of hearing that, "inquiries are a matter of record."
Why would anybody want to do that? How does it benefit the thief? The only thing I can tell you about the hard inqury is to write the insurance people a letter and tell them you did not give them authorization to pull your credit and demand that the inqury be removed from your report. I'm not sure how effective CRAs are when disputing inquries. peace, delilah
Delilah, Well, if someone wants to have the benefit of screwing up someone else's credit report I guess that would work just fine. Think outraged spouse in divorce proceedings. PawMix
"I DID NOT APPLY FOR A LOAN OR CREDIT CARD" "YOU CAN NOT 'SEE' HOW I DRIVE BY MY CREDIT REPORT" "PLEASE REMOVE THE INQUIRY"
Re: Re: Insurance quote HARD--dispute? oh I see. I was imagining some wack job running around town to pay phones, pulling out the phone book with the sole purpose of ... (dah, dah dah) RUINING STRANGERS' CREDIT. Call him the FICO bandit! *<) peace, delilah
