NOT that this will surprise the informed... but it did surprise me a bit. I did some holiday shopping at one store. I used several cards (I had a credit balance on my Providian mastercard, so I used it as well as my Cap1 card). 2 days after Christmas I return several items. One on Cap1 and 2 on Providian. I now have a credit balance on Providian again so I charge another item. So: 12/29 Cap1 credit 18 12/29 Prov credit 42 12/29 Prov charge 70 Ok. here's how they posted. 12/29 Cap 1 credit. PERFECT 12/29 PRovidian charge 70 2 DAYS LATER 12/31 Prov credit 42 Now this is the same cashier, the same store, the same date... but Providian held my credit 2 days. Yet another reason to limit Providian usage. I hate to post this because, before their financial woes they really did give me decent credit limits and that helped me with other companies. But I have a real problem with this holding credits. Another slimey Providian tactic exposed. I'm disappointed, but not surprised.
You're right. That is slimy as it increases your average daily balance from which they charge interest. But, if you pay off the Providian *within* the same billing cycle (charge after it closes and pay before it closes again) you'll not get charged interest. I'm so glad I closed my account.
yep. I've kept a couple of cards for ratios. I normally charge gas but pay in cycle. so I give them no interest. I will close at the 24 mark I am so sick of their completely stupidly unhelpful executive office. they don't have any power.
