Hey gang. My honey and I are planning our honeymoon in Europe next month. Anybody know of any programs for international cell phone rentals? I thought for sure I recalled reading somewhere that certain credit card priviledges were a free international phone rental (AMEX, Citi Signature???) But I can't find the info anywhere. I found a rental option on Voicestream at: http://www.voicestream.com/worldclass/wcRental.asp ...but if one of our credit cards offers a free rental, so much the better!
Hi HOPE - do it this way and you can get international access. SPRINT approves 100% of credit applicants - I use Sprint for cell service. Get the phone and service from sprint.com - and they send you the phone the next day. THEN, call customer service after you have received the phone and ask for an international chip - they send it, you put it in the phone - and VOILA!!! But - be prepared to list the countries - if you go to Australia, make sure you have the Australian chip - not New Jersey LOL! later - dogman
I have an Amex card, you can get $25 worth of free calls with a minimum one week rental, and free delivery and collection of phone with a two week rental. Here is a link: http://www2.kemc.co.uk/clients/rent_a_phone/american_express/frames_new.htm Try that...
Good doggie!! Woof! Woof! Thanks, I already have Voicestream, but my phone isn't international, but I'll check out Sprint, too.
Cool 'Hello". I'll go look at that one, too. If anybody knows of any others, we have AMEX Gold and Optima Platinum, Citi Signature VISA, Citi WorldMasterCard, Discover Platinum. I'll go dig through their sites to see if they have anything else and let ya'll know.
Got it!!! I just called VoiceStream. Turns out that I can upgrade to an international phone and still keep my same plan (more minutes than the current promotions). I chose the Samsung N105. On their website, the price is $79.99. Not bad for a world phone! But when I called he upgraded me for $54.99 ($59.53 with tax) and billed it to my account. I didn't dare ask 'why the lower price'. So for less than than the price of renting an international phone for 2 weeks, I bought one. Plus, the international roaming minutes rate is lowerer ($0.99/min. flat rate as opposed to $1.99/min in Europe and $2.99 to call the U.S.A) And I don't change my number or anything! I just pop out the SIM card and switch it to the new phone and "Presto! Chango!" My own number switches to the new phone along with all my stored numbers, etc. I'm likin' this!!! (It did call for a 12 month agreement, which had expired 2 months ago on my plan, but that's okay with me. Between me and my fiance, we've used VoiceStream for about 3 years and are still quite satisfied with their product and service.)
