Hi everyone, I am an international student who has recently gotten a part-time job on campus and along with that a new SSN. I am looking to apply for a credit card and build my credit. I have applied to capitalone's credit cards and have been rejected on the terms that I have no credit history, so I ask you what is the best way to start building my credit history. I have looked into secured credit cards (citi's particularly) but have heard dissapointing things about it. Thanks, penncredit
best way for you to build credit is probably with a student credit card. you shouldn't have to go the secured route since you are a student with NO credit. it'd be a different story if you had bad credit. one of my first cards was a student card with a $300 limit. just make sure to always pay on time and in a few or six months you can ask for a credit increase. I think nowadays some student cards even offer free rewards based on your spending. I'd check out the credit card section on this website and see what kind of student cards they offer.
