Is a DCU Visa subprime?

I just became a DCU (DCU.org) member for their cashpak package (ideal for college students, I've got two) and the possiblity of a home equity line.

I didn't know when I joined, but I just found out I was approved for a $3k Visa card at 11%. So I said, sure I'll take it.

Now you have heard me brag about my $22k in subprime cards and being the king of crap cards. I'm wondering if I've broken the pattern, or if DCU is considering subprime.

I don't think any credit union will be considered subprime. It might be looked upon unfavorably if you had a secured card, but you don't have that with DCU. CUs tend to be better than the middle of the road. They generally offer very good - but not great - rates. You won't ever or rarely ever will see them offer 0% on car loans. And you usually don't get 0% BT offers from them. They tend to offer somewhat generous CLs and their standards for getting their cards aren't the same as a non CU bank. In my personal ranking, I'd give all CUs an B+/A-. Just my opinion BTW.

I agree. Credit unions don't usually have prime and subprime, unless they have a secured product.

My CU has a MasterCard at 10.9%, that's the rate for everyone. You're right in line with that.

So, I'd say CONGRATULATIONS!!! Looks like you have prime card at last!
