Is 'big CC credit' harder to get?

I wonder, is it just me, or are those huge zero percent offers not as generous as they were six months ago?

Sometime last year I opened an account with Chase for 40K and cashed a zero-percent convenience check for most of it. I used this to pay off our mortgage early and avoid the mortgage interest. We were making a lot of money so I knew we could cover it. Sure enough, we quickly had 30K in a savings account and now that's all we owe on the Chase card.

But the 0% offer expires in June and for peace of mind (and to hang onto the money longer), I'd like to move it to a newer offer, one of those that doesn't expire until December 2004.

The problem is, nobody wants to give me a giant limit anymore. 10K is about all I can do. Granted I've only tried twice, but ...

I have two cards with a huge limit (about 40K each), the 30K being on one card and nothing on the other. Then, one smaller card of about 6K with 1K on it (this is for a friend), and now I have a new Discover I'll have to close soon since the limit is worthless to me. That's it.

Is the deal that I can no longer get a high-limit card because one of my cards has 30K on it, even though I transfer that immediately on opening the new card?

Or does this more reflect a shift in CC policy?

    Thanks for your thoughts ...

When you have a BIG LIMIT on one card...the OTHER credit card companies are not so willing to give you another BIG LIMIT (unless you have a track record with them)

Well, shoot, what fun is that? :)

I guess I might have to give it all back in June and see if another CC company will extend me the offer. I was hoping to bounce it from card to card for a while.

You might be able to get 2 X $20,000

You state you have 2 big cards. How about calling retention for the other card you have and see if they have any good BT rates they can give you? Might be best to go with what you already have. Run them for a while if it's a limited offer and then call up the bank you just took all the $$ away from and repeat the process. Worth a try.
