    1*Thank you for the info.and calling the numbers to check it out.

    2* She had an officer from the sheriffs office listen to the message on the Answering Set and this is the # he got off the machine too.

    MIL & I Suspected it was B/C of that, but now we know it was a CA.
    MIL just now informed me that she got a collection letter in the mail yesterday from this KEN MEYER.The CA he is with is CLIENT SERVICES INC.
    Has anyone ever heard of this CA?
    This letter proves what CA left the message on the Ans.Set!
    Time for a validation letter but what to do about the 900 # matter?
    Suggestions anyone?

    When you dial the 800 number lbrown59 posted, it says nothing about Ken Meyer. As the other poster said, it refers you to a directory assistance service at $1.99 (too expensive, lol) per minute. Even though this 900 service is a ripoff, there's no evidence to suggest it`s what was suggested here in the original post. I second radio`s pronouncement: NO CONSPIRACY. I guess lbrown59 isn`t feeling well again this weekend.

    1*Naturally when MEYER left the 800# that wasn't the CAs phone Number it would not refer to him.
    My 3 year old nephew could have figured that one out. Thanks for the brilliant insight Dock!

    2*Now back to the original question is it legal for a CA to give you a number that directs you to call a 900# in order for you to get back to them?

    3*No body suggested any Conspiracy!

    4* How is there any connection with relating MIL experience with Ken Meyer and the CA and my health when the incident has nothing to do with me what so ever?
    As usual another miss diagnosis from the renowned DOCK!

    lbrown,

    Perhaps it would fall under, FDCPA 807. False or misleading representations.

    A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

    (10) The use of any false representation or deceptive means to collect or attempt to collect any debt or to obtain information concerning a consumer.

    (14) The use of any business, company, or organization name other than the true name of the debt collector's business, company, or organization

    and/or:

    808. Unfair practices

    A debt collector may not use unfair or unconscionable means to collect or attempt to collect any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

    (1) The collection of any amount (including any interest, fee, charge, or expense incidental to the principal obligation) unless such amount is expressly authorized by the agreement creating the debt or permitted by law.

    (5) Causing charges to be made to any person for communications by concealment of the true propose of the communication. Such charges include, but are not limited to, collect telephone calls and telegram fees.

    There's also a Telephone Consumer Protection Act, I think it relates to telemarketers mostly, you might want to check though.

    Hmm, the discussion so far begs the question: why would a collection agency want a debtor to call a $1.99 directory assistance product?

    Are any of these possibilities? . . .
    1) He didn't speak the number clearly when he spoke into your answering machine.
    2) He misspoke his toll-free callback number.
    3) Your answering machine doesn't work so well, and you didn't hear it quite right.
    4) You misheard (or didn't correctly transcribe) the phone number he left.

    Sure, you can weave all kinds of scenarios here, but perhaps the most parsimonious solution is the correct one in this case.

Ya'll were driving me crazy and I was about to have my son dial the doggone number "for" me! Yes, I have "full use" of all ten fingers, but it wouldn't have cost "me" a dime. . . he's 3.

    I needed to chuckle after finishing my taxes! Doc, you're funnier than Paul Harvey! And Ibrown, you ALWAYS crack me up! LOL

    And Doc, "parsimonious"? You'll have people thinking "a bitter red fruit that grows on trees". And those WILL stain!

    Why can't you just say, "extremely frugal"?

    I'm sorry, I'm just in a silly mood this evening. :eek:)

    Some people have no endorphins, LOL.

    I say, sue the suckers, whatever it was it's illegal!!! And then get rid of the phone. If you don't have a phone they can't do that to you. Let your phone company know that you do not appreciate the kinds of calls they are allowing over their lines. Boycott them!!

    Get a CELL PHONE...it's ILLEGAL for a CA to call a cell phone!!!

    You can probably get a better deal than a "LAND LINE" phone...

    Weekends free (out of state)...instate all free (local)

    To whom this may concern.
    The following is from a letter I received from my MIL
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    (The folks on the board seem to think there was no conspiracy but then why didn't Meyer give me his #?
    I wish some of the idiots on that board could hear my Answering Set.Maybe that would change their minds.You can quote me on the board.
    Why should I pay $1.99 a minute to find out Meyer is with a CA???
    You can tell those on the board that your MIL ask these questions & I am not paranoid or ready for the funny farm.
    I'm getting tired of the people on that board running you down when you are only asking legitimate questions for me.)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Folks:
    Isn't this a wonderful impression you're giving the public about this board?

    If you're goal is to discredit this board congratulations on your success!

    So you think it's funny that my MIL is getting hounded by bill collectors.
    I had been encouraging new poster to share the news about this board with new people.
    I quit doing that because who wants to join it and get mocked.I just realized I wasn't doing them any favors.
    Perhaps I should have been warning them about the board instead don't you agree?
