Re: Who can have a SSN.

A SSN is not a citizenship number. It is a tax id. Therefore, anyone who pays US taxes needs one. This includes foreign nationals who work in the US.

For example, I am working in Australia. I am a US citizen here on work visa. Australia gave me a tax id number so they can track the Australian taxes I pay.

Actually that's not fully correct. US is issuing Tax ID number for tax purposes and do not issue SS# to foreigners anymore. Meaning, if you are on some kind of visa (except tourist), you will probably get SS. If you are a tourist (staying for more then 90 days) you may apply to get Tax ID, to be able to apply for driver licence or open bank account, etc.

Anyway, I still would like to know what CHOD is. I kind of read throughout the board and understands that this is the "time" that CRA may not have time to verify the dispute and just simply remove it right?

Would I just proceed as usual? Meaning, just a regular dispute letter with return receipt and wait?

    Thank for any info

That is correct concerning CHOD. Send your dispute via CRRR. Dispute the hardest things to get off, and hopefully the results will be successful during the holidays.

UNLV, thanks! Well, I only have one bad account so that is what I would put in dispute. I just received a letter from Experian that this account has been verified (disputed by Law Office of Jack Schrold in Ft. Lauderdale). Ehh, I lost my faith :(

I called Associates 1-800 and entered my account number (it's been closed for almost 2 years and paid off for over 1 year), I got:

Your balance is 0, there is no payment due at this time!! As long as they have my account in the system, that's how long CRA will be able to verify it. At least it is CHOD ;)

Any ideas on how many other options (if any) I have?

    Thanks!

    bump?

Anyone know if I called and asked why my account is still active in their system they would remove it? If they did, maybe they would also get rid of the info of my account (as Discover did) and then I will be able to dispute it and get it removed/updated. I'll try to do CHOD but wanted to know what to do if that fails.

    Thanks for any info
