I was wondering if it was okay to go with the threats first I really need to get some things off my credit fast. What is the fastest way to go about this. I have somebody else's collections and chargeoffs dating back from 1999. Thanks 9links
9links, Unfortunately, this is rarely a fast process. Threats are only of value if you have taken the time to follow the process step by step and have documented violations of the FDCPA and the FCRA. Then, you have something to threaten with. Imagine how many unhappy people CRAs have saying "if you don't take that off, I'm going to sue you." 99% never do. But when they receive your intent to sue letter, with the violations delineated, you have a much better chance of being heard and taken seriously. The problem didn't come about quickly. The fix isn't going to be quick either. But if you're willing to take the time to learn the process and work step by step through you will be successful. You should read the glossary for newbies and the FAQ threads posted above. Then print yourself a copy of the FDCPA and FCRA. Pour over them and highlight the passages that apply to your situation. LEARN YOUR RIGHTS! Then establish your game plan and follow it through. Post and ask questions as you go along if there is something you don't understand, but for goodness sakes, don't start sending letters before you fully understand the purpose of the letter you're sending. (That's the voice of experience, it's a lot better to start off slowly and correctly. If you don't understand why you're sending what you're sending you have little chance of success.) This post isn't designed to discourage you, but rather to encourage you to do some more homework before you proceed so you have the greatest chance of success. All the best! DemPooches
