Is it possible?

Is it really possible to get my credit report cleaned up within a year or two just by disputing and validating? My last negative should fall off in 2008, but most will come off in the next 3 years. Right now my scores are in the 500's - I will be happy just to see them hit the mid to high 600's!

Many here have done it, so I don't see why you can't.

Yes it is possible!! It takes some time and hard work but if you stick with it and keep checking in on the board you should be able to really improve not only your scores but also the "look" of your reports. Read the FAQ and make sure to ask the very knowledgeable people on the boards for help when you need it. Good luck

Thanks Hedwig and DOITMYSELF, that is very encouraging news! I have spent many late nights on this board the past week trying to learn as much as I can. My husband is calling me obsessed, and he is right! I figure I have to be right now if I want to get everything cleaned up. I sat down last night with all 3 credit reports comparing what has been accomplished and trying to get a feel of what I have to do to each one. I actually ran out of ink for the printer last night! I have never gone through ink so fast before, LOL!!!!!

Breana...part of this is a game of who quits first...keep after them.

If your negs come off in 2008 that means they should have defaulted in 2001....that's the same for me...2001 was my big default year.

I will! The more I learn, the more annoyed I get at these CRA's. I used to just say my credit was poor so I just figured I had to wait until it cleared up. Now I feel like the scoring system is just a bunch of subjective b.s. Even after I get this all fixed up I have to have the "proper" mix of credit to get a perfect score. What difference does it make what your mix is? NONE!!

I started this journey in February when my TU was 480. As of yesterday, I have 2 derogs left and a FICO of 676. The advice given here is priceless. Listen to what others have to say, be persistent, and you will no doubt be successful.

    Good Luck!

Breana....I admire your energy. Keep in mind that everyones sitaution is different so when you read of people getting all the negs off in 2-3 months and yours takes longer don't get down on yourself.

Sometimes their negs might be 5-6 years old vs yours being 2-3 years old. It seems to me the older they are the quicker they come off.

As accounts get older the records aren't always readily available to verify. This has been the case for me.

Yeah - that's what I just found out when an item I disputed twice with experian has been verified twice, but was removed from my husbands report after one lousy week!! A joint account. Go figure.

It's more like the more damaging it is to your credit the harder it is to remove,

If it's wrong it's wrong and needs removed regardless of it's age.
The more recent it is the more damaging it is.
I see a pattern of them of trying much harder to retain the most damaging items and less effort on their part to keep the lesser damaging items on reports.
