Help!!! A few months ago i bought a car. I have not so good credit(which i am working on), the dealership shopped around and because of that i have about 7 inquiries from different places(all for the same reason). I called one today and she told me that she would NOT remove, no investigation, at al, she wouldn't even budgel... She said it was my fault because i didnt tell the dealership to only pull my report once... Is there anything i can do? I had no idea they would pull my report more than once. What is my next step? if there is one. Thanks for reading. Robyn
Weelllllll, you probably (albeit unknowingly) authorized them to shop it by signing the credit app. I've heard its not true, but I have always read when shopping for a car or house, multiple inquiries within a certain period are counted as one single inquiry.
Hi, Today when i called the Credit Bureau's they all said the same thing... they are alll seperate and count as a seperate inq. One of the CB's said these inquiries were really hurting my score because they are 6 months or younger. It just doesnt seem fair!!! Thanks for replying. Robyn
No, it isn't fair. I was in your shoes some time ago. Racked up 6 inqs on ALL of my reports within a week. Of course, those subprime car lenders just laugh at you when you try to complain. Something else to watch out for: some of those subprime lenders only report to one of the CRAs... or, once the account is paid, choose not to report it at all (unless you push them). Mine only reported the paid off account to Equifax (and "does not subscribe" to the other two, although something tells me that if the account became delinquent, it would find its way to all 3 reports that same month). Not much you can do with the inqs, though. Sorry.
I never checked my score around the time before and right after they did all of those inq. But right now my scores are between 540 and 585.
Well ... I was hoping you might be able to develop an argument based on the fact that it seriously damaged your score, but you can't. Unfortunately I know of nothing you can do at this point other than to write them and explain the situation, and ASK them to recode all but perhaps one of their inq's. Also you'll want to study the "bumpage" issue. But see also "split file". It gets better Robyn. I promise.
