I pulled my TU report today, and found 2 inquiries that I didn't recognize. I called the companies, and while one was closed, the other did check to see if they had any info. They said they had an account with the same name as mine, but a different social. They said this account used to be a 'US Visa' card, but they've since sold the debt to another agency and couldn't give any more info since it wasn't mine. Assuming the other also had no good reason to be in my report, what is my recourse here? Gai-jin
Re: Is this a NonPP? What is my Rec Previously when I've tried to dispute an inquiry, I was told they can't be disputed with the credit bureaus because it is accurate information. Even if the company had no right to pull it, they did, so listing it as an inquiry is correct. Gai-jin
Re: Is this a NonPP? What is my Rec The CRA has no legal requirement to allow users of their reports to view any inquiries. It is just their practice to do so, and FICO uses those inquiries to depress scores. The CA can notify the CRA that the inquiry was in error, and the CRA can hide it from inclusion in credit reports when it was made in error. CRAs have done this. The CRA does have a legal requirement to show all recent inquiries to the consumer. The legal liability for non-PP inquiries, under FCRA, rests with the CA.
