My mother got a call for me. The message they left her for me was that he was calling in reference to an "Academy claim refund of $1200". I have a sneaking suspision this is a collection agency...but is it legal to misrepresent themselves in an effort to get a return call? If anyone is bored, the number is 800-441-6881
Recording that answered said it was "Academy Services", nothing about being a CA. Nothing at the ACA website. Have you been in school?
No, I haven't in ten years...and I didn't go anywhere named "Academy" at least. My suspisions were aroused when the person who called my mom started in on her about how I didn't live there and how she was not going to give them a number to reach me at and would only take a message... I haven't lived there in 12 years and have no idea why they would have my parents number as a contact... (they told her that was the number given them..??) (And I would have called myself but alas they don't trust us with phones where I work..heh) Very strange indeed. Thanks
Re: Re: Is this legal? Misrepresentation? Tee-hee *innocent look* I found a couple of references on google that "Academy Services" is a collection agency... haven't found anything else out though (no web site or diectory listings). So with this being an agency, is it legal to misrepresent to get a call back?
Re: Re: Is this legal? Misrepresent They're definitely a collection agency. Called, got their address and asked the nature of their business - "Personal account management". Googled their address, got this listing at: http://philadelphia.zami.com/Collection_Agency/A-Z Academy Collection Svc 10965 Decatur Road - Philadelphia, PA 215-281-7500 Bill Bauer has them listed here: http://pub50.ezboard.com/fcreditwrenchfrm2.showMessage?topicID=47.topic .
