Hi , just got a message on my machine, this is what she says (all in a nice, sarcastic tone) "This message is for **our name** You need to have your attorney contact us immediately, ummmm, avoiding my calls won't do you any good. Call regarding **file number** at **a toll number** ext. Found out this is OSI collection agency, never heard of them and owe nothing beyond current bills. Now here is the kicker, the file number she left, when i called osi's 800 number in Dublin ohio, had a completely different name in another part of the state and it was a military account. (he gave me the guys name and the type of account along with the town the guy lives in) Then I ask for a toll free number for the correct office, he said there isn't one for that office and that they didn't have to provide one. I am completely fuming about these people. Did they just find a name similar to his (the guys last name has the same first 4 letters) and just start randomly threating people in the same state? Our last name is very,very distinct, only about 20 people in the us share the last name and 10 of them are related to us. There is no way they could mistake my hubbie for this other guy.
It may not be legal, but probably the other guy would have to sue. Unless it continues, and you want to view it as misdemeanor telephone harassment.
