Ok, I sent in a dispute to TU like two weeks ago. I called them yesterday to inquire if the investigation had been completed, and the CSR told me that they verified the utility account, so that one would remain. As for the other item in dispute, they were waiting for them to see what would happen. According to my records they have 1 more week.

I went to WK, pulled my report, and the utility company had pulled my credit report (the one that the CSR rep told me they had verified) why did they do that....and is that within their rights?

I think it's pretty rare for a company to pull your report when you dispute something they're reporting, but if you currently have an account with the utility company, then I believe they are allowed to pull your report. If it's an old closed (and paid) account, then they probably do not have pp.

Thanks Brett....no I do NOT currently have an account with this collection company....it was closed out like in 9/02. So, they did not have perm. purp.. so now what are my options...

Is there a letter that I can now send to CA, or CRA? What would I search under?

by closed, you mean closed with a -0- balance?

If that's the case, then search on "permissable purpose", you should find some sample letters there. You would send it to the company that pulled the report.

Address it to the legal department - that would be a good start. Or, if they are incorporated you can go to your state's Secretary of State and find out their registered agent of service and send it to them at their address.

Then it will definitely get to the right person.
