is this the CRA or CA's doing?

    Two similar questions if I could ask.

    1. I closed a 1st Premier credit card when I didn't agree with their stipulations. Never used, showing a charge off amount of $400. On my EX and EQ report it shows "closed by consumer" It does not note this on my TU report. Is this 1st Premier's responsibility to notify the CRA or is it the CRA's responsibility.

    2. I have a charge off debt from Heilig Meyers turned to collection. Asta Funding (who is collecting on all 3 reports with different names: AstaFunding, OSI and Palasades) purchased the debt, I think.

    Before I asked for validation from Asta, I disputed through TU as not mine to see if it would come off.

    TU responded as verified no change.

    the tradeline before:

    Asta Funding
    account: 12345
    updated: 12/2002
    opened: 11/99
    balance: $271
    most owed: $271
    past due: $271

    The Tradeline now:
    The following item is supressed pending credit grantors update:

    OSI Portfolio Services
    account:12345
    updated: 12/2002
    opened: 11/99
    balance: $271
    most owed: $271
    past due: $271

    Is this correct? Can the CA update this account as unchanged, but supressed? I have sent Asta demand for validation but I haven't recieved anything yet?

    #1 It is the creditors responsibility to report complete and accurate info to the cra's. It is 1st Premiers obligation to report as closed by consumer.

    #2 I believe they can do this. They are supposed to report the acct as disputed to the cra when you request validation. However, if they have it supressed, no one sees it and I believe it isn't calculated into your score, so I would say this is better than marking it as disputed.

    I don't know if this will fly, but you might send a letter to the cra stating if the credit grantor hasn't updated in 30 days, then it needs to be deleted immediately.

    Thanks LKH, I may have to give that a shot next. I have requested validation from thi CA directly, my 30 days are up on May 7, I'll see about waiting.
