As you all know last week Washington Mutual was taken over by Chase. Today I closed my Wamu accounts because quite frankly I did not want to deal with Chase. Wamu had a so-called rewards program that earned 3 cents for every debit card transaction that customers made, which was transferred into accounts on the accounts opening anniversary dates. I opened my account with Wamu sometime in March of last year (2007). On that day one year later (March ??) i was credited for the amounts accumulated. Well guess what? Today they did NOT give me the amount for the rewards that I accumulated between March and today - even though I closed my accounts. While the amount is insignificant - only 30 cents - they insisted that rewards are to be paid out on anniversary dates and NOT any sooner. As I walked out of the branch I told the CSR to shove the 30 cents up to where the sun don't shine.
That's why it's important to READ the card agreement. WAMU will still operate separately for a while. Maybe you should have hung on. Chase has actually been very good and very generous to me.
But the funny thing was that my wife who went to a teller to close her account, did receive her rewards amount, $1.50.
