I have been reading and researching and now I am ready to crawl......

My BK was discharged October, 2005. One of the debts that was discharged in BK shows as past due on my wife's Equifax and T.U. credit reports (not Experian). This is how Equifax shows this past Due:

Status as of [?] Sep, 2004
    Date opened [?] Nov, 2001
Date of last activity [?] Apr, 2004
    Date closed [?] Not Reported
    Account number [?] XXXXXXXX3000
    Loan type [?] Not Reported
    Largest past balance [?] $2,397
    Terms [?] Not Reported
    Account Type [?] Installment
    Account holder [?] Individual
    Scheduled payment amount [?] $49
Account status [?] Account is Open

What is the smart way to proceed as it appears this is really dragging her score down? Thanks in advance.

Dispute the item with the CRAs. Send them a copy of your discharge document and a copy ofthe listing of the creditors that you included in your bankruptcy petition.

Hmmm. I read in this forum that you should NEVER send the CRA's your BK documents. Is this an exception or did I misread?

If you do, you can never dispute an entry as "not mine" to have it removed later on (i.e. sooner than the default 7-year time period).

That may or may not be important to you.

Start with a CRA dispute as being incorrect and see if that fixes it before you send any personal information to credit bureau.

    Don't send CRAs BK documents.

Do google up an article called "Prisoners of Debt"

I did not mean to throw greg1045 under the bus. Thanks for all the input. I am going slow on this by doing a CRA dispute then let's see where that takes me. I may eventually get to where I send the BK info...hope not!

Send a simple dispute to the CRA something like "I do not owe this company" Doesn't look like this creditor has updated in several years - and long before you filed.
