Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved Can you just walk into those room with the platinum cards or do you have to fly with a certain company to be able to use those benifits??
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved You have to have a ticket valid for travel on the day you want to use the lounge.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved Congratulations on the card, DaveLV!! BankOne/FirstUSA also offers a Marriott Rewards Visa. I never tried it, but maybe they'll exchange the United Mileage Plus Visa for the Marriott Rewards. You can use your Marriott Rewards points for hotel accommodations at any of the Marriott brand hotels anywhere in the world (I'm saving mine for a trip to Europe and maybe a trip to Australia). You can also use them for rental cars and air fares, so if you get enough points you can get the whole vacation from Marriott. Of course, you'll already have the airline miles, so you'll have more points for hotels and cars!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved It the Plat card from the Amex Platinum Cash Rebate card? I wasnt sure if the Plat Cash card has all the bennies that the Plat card has...or if they are one and the same... Pardon stupiduty...willgator hasnt talked to me yet...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved You guys need to help me out here. If you keep spreading around purchases on many different rewards cards, doesn't it just take longer to get a good reward? For example, I like to use Amex for everything, however when a store does not accept Amex, I use a cash rebate card. These are the only two rewards cards I actively use and as a result my points/rebates add up quickly. If I start using my Hilton HHonors Visa and my Diners, it just takes longer to get anything. Any thought on this? Regards, ChesterR
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved CONGRATS DaveLV! Man - I hope I follow your lead in another 2 months when ALL reports go clean. GREAT DUDE! Pawing down on all fours.... DaveLV - others say it is a high fee- it is. BUT, that card is POWER. arrrff - dogman
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved DAVE I see no one has asked this question, did you get the 300$ business plat or 395$ personnal plat????? hummmm
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved I got the personal card. I have the business gold card because it was free for the first year. From comparing the two (business and personal) platinum cards, it seemed like the personal card had more benefits.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved Aside from the more intangible benefits (I have other Amex cards, but the service on my reg Plat *seems* to be superior) I really do consider the dollar for dollar benefits since I travel. I thought it was worth it BEFORE they added Starwood Gold and Crown Room. Now it is a no-brainer for me. I love the room upgrades and 4 pm check outs at Starwood. Hertz Gold is great. And the Crown Room is really nice when I have a connection (which I often do, trying to get extra miles) With so many platinum cards out there now, I really don't see much extra status though. (Maybe that's because I know there are Black Centurions out there)
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved No, it has to be from the airline that corresponds to the lounge, for example you have to have a delta airline ticket from that day to use the crown room or a northwest ticket to use the northwest lounge. I also agree that the 4pm late checkout really makes a different. It can really make all the difference because you could take off friday from work, stay over at a luxury hotel for 2 nights and really get a 3 day weekend for it. And if you were up late dining or drinking the night before, you probably are not going to want to vacate the hotel at 12:00. So this is really a wonderful feature. I used it for my vacation in Florida this year and got to spend another afternoon at the beach and then got to sip cognac in the crown room while wating for my late connection in Atlanta.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Amex Platinum Approved There is one more benefit that I hope I never have to use-- Travel Emergency Assistance (but I'm glad it's there) I'm not certain it really works (I'm not a big fan of credit card insurance programs--I'm too lazy to go through the hoops required, and there always seems to be a loophole) but the idea of an air ambulance at your disposal *sounds* kind of nifty. I wonder if any "in the know" Amex people could verify the major thing I have noticed about the regular platinum. Customer service rocks. (While I find no discernible difference on Plat Starwood or Plat Delta) My suspicion is that all Delta Skymiles cardholders get the same reps, but that reg Plat calls are routed to special personnel. They certainly seem kinder, wiser and more efficient.
Re: Amex Platinum Approved Oh for the luxury of having the time to actually use a lounge....we flew five, yes mine, yes five, kids to Alaska and back in July....."what lounge?" Two still in diapers.....the family restroom is my lounge. I managed to get there and back without being thrown up on. I'm content for today lol. Congrats DAve!! you da man, what with the b of a biz and all!
Re: Amex Platinum Approved Good point about it not being especially useful if you have kids, esepcially young kids and especially a lot of kids. Still, if you fly on business some it could still be beneficial. Just one of of many reasons why I'm glad I don't have any kids. It leaves me both more time and money to spend on my own whims.
Re: Amex Platinum Approved For me, I cannot even express the amount of joy they bring me. They are truly a blessing from God. I love being able to spend time and money on them.
