Dear Friends, I just want to remind US all that it is so VERY important to keep your cc bills paid on time and keep them in good standing. While hubby and I have humongus balances, we are getting better and better rates these days. I contribute that to these reasons.. #1asking in prayer #2 having a credit history showing no late pays, judgements ect #3 finding this board and the m- fools CC's 1. BofA 11.2K. 4.75% V 2. Chase 5,140 @ 6.4% getting moved to Citi probably tomorrw @ 3.9% until paid off 3. Juniper 1800 @ 2.9 (expires in April) getting moved to State Farm for more 2.9% until Sept 4. My Citi 825 @ 0% until August
Thanks, Cherie for keeping things in perspective. Sometimes we get so caught up in daily activities (ie credit restoration, school, children, career, etc) we put our relationship with God on the back burner. God bless you.
Cherie, Nice post. You've done such a great job negotiating your CC accounts and terms. It's nice following your accomplishments.
Cherie, made a very good post with some excellent points, but please remember that all of us on this board are not Christian and some of us are not religious. I'm don't want to dispel anyone's beliefs, but talking about prayer and God puts some of us in a very uncomfortable position. I, for one, don't care if people speak of their religious views or beliefs, but for some it may be awkward and I don't want them to miss the point of what happens to be a very good post. Dani

Dani" Dear Dani, Please accept my most humble apology in advance if I offend you. HOWEVER, I just cannot let your post go by without a response. First, you our anyone else would never dispel my belief in God or his son Jesus that gave his life to pay for MY SIN DEBT. I must guess that you have not yet accepted Jesus nor have you claimed your free gift of salvation. I still consider myself a 'new' Christian and would be somewhat hesitant in debating with you.. but I KNOW that if my body died today.. I HAVE eternal life. You opened the door by responding so like it or not I will pray that God will send someone to you that is just the witness that you need. Much of the point of my post would be missed had I left out the number one reason that we are slowly getting out of debt and learning along the way... I am PRAYING about it! Cherie
Re: Its so important ...Omnipotent These are just opinions. Praying may help you but others may not think the same way you do not. God's omnipotence may or may not have helped your debt but in your insistance to clarify your point you may just have added fuel to the fire. Yur theistic approach to debt is interesting. Good Luck to you. A wise woman once said " you do not have to believe in God to be a good person. You just have to believe in morality and compassion."
Re: Its so important ...Omnipotent I don't dispute that. My concern was I did not want others to feel like outsiders. God/religion is a very sensitive topic much like politics, race, and abortion. I understand it is a free country and it wouldn't have offended me if I was in church or even out on the street, but this is a credit forum. We all come from very diverse backgrounds, and share different political and religious views. If people wanted to speak of God/religion it should be discussed in the General Lounge or in Chat, not on the Credit Forum. My intend was not to ostracize or anger anyone. But, as I stated before, we live in a very diverse country and we have to be thoughtful that everyone does not shares our views. I don't believe in not sharing one's view, but I believe there is a time and place for that. I have said my peace and hope everyone has a good day. Dani
Re: Its so important ...Omnipotent Can we close this thread now? I dont like being in disharmony with my fellow Creditnetters
Re: Its so important ...Omnipotent I have come down off my soapbox. Love, is right case closed. I won't say any more. Dani
Re: Its so important ...Omnipotent Sorry but I can't sit still. A wise woman once said " you do not have to believe in God to be a good person. You just have to believe in morality and compassion." This woman was not wise! She is very foolish! She only told have the story! Yes you can be a good person without belief in God but that's not the end of it. There's something she didn't say. You can live your life full of morals and compassion and miss heaven by a zillion miles! But I guess if you foolishly believe that there is no heaven, then it doesn't matter NOW! But guess what? There is a LATER!
Re: Its so important ...Omnipotent First of all, I disagree with the idea that a thread should be closed just because somebody is uncomfortable with "disharmony." If that was the case, we would have never benefitted from some of the most interesting threads on this board. Second, I completely agree with breeze regarding First Amendment rights. Third, as far as I can tell, Cherie was simply saying that being a Christian was a major, if not the major, reason why she is recovering from some of her financial problems. More power to her. I don't see that as off-topic or anything else. Fourth, I happen to be Jewish. I'm certainly not Christian and wouldn't want to be by any stretch of the imagination -- just as I'm sure there are at least some here who wouldn't want to be Jewish. I find the very idea of the "holy trinity" to be contradictory with monotheism, but by the same token there are Christians who find a denial of Christ to be a guaranteed ticket to hell. To each his own. Cherie's comments acknowledging her Christianity certainly didn't make me feel uncomfortable one bit. I believe that anything healthy that makes Cherie do good things in her life is positive and worthy of celebration. Finally, thanks, Dani, for attempting to make this place more comfortable for non-Christians, but speaking for myself, your intervention is unnecessary. Cherie has just as much right to credit her Christianity as any other factor that anybody else cites. Hence, breeze's point regarding our great nation which guarantees her the right to speak her mind. Doc
I have never brought up my religion on this board as I personally didn' think it was necessary for people to know that personal part of my life, but to each is own. However I do have one question for you, why will you pray for someone that hasn't asked for your prayer? I'm not condemning you in any way, so please don't be offended or feel as though I am attacking you, it's a curiosity question.
This is really cool. People can talk about religion and not fight when they're tolerant and try to understand the other person's point of view. Minds are like parachutes....
If a person is a good person in word and deed, but not a Christian, and therefore "going to hell" anyway, doesn't it make their goodness more noble? After all, their motivations are not suspect. They do not act in fear of hell or hope of heaven. Food for thought and all that. -ingenue
'ya know.... I've been to a couple or twelve places around the world where it's commonly accepted that Christians are "going to hell" for failing to believe correctly. After all, a common concept of almost every religious belief system is that the way you live this life determines whether you have a good or bad outcome when you pass the veil. In some religions, if you are very bad you could be reincarnated as Roseanne Barr's loofah...... Let's not get too smug that we know the answers. I've got my own belief system and I feel very strongly about it but I really liked the bumper sticker I saw the other day: "Militant Agnostic - I don't know, AND YOU DON'T EITHER!!!!" Dancer The trick behind food for thought is you've gotta try something from every dish on the buffet......
Ingenue: No, non-belief doesn't make their goodness more noble. It just makes them "imago deus" - created in the image of God and thus beneficiaries of a common grace called human decency. Even still, concerning being "good in word and deed", all people do good things - some of the time. All people do bad things, again, - some of the time. Christianity is not a faith based on how many old ladies one has walked across the street before one kicks the bucket. What Christianity teaches is that no one is inherently good enough to earn heaven, so a *Substitute* was provided to "earn" heaven for us. Anyone who acts "in fear of hell or hope of heaven"- or believes that Christians act "in fear of hell or hope of heaven" - has then missed the point of Christianity. Dancer: So, does that mean the person doesn't really know that he or she doesn't know?
