and I have all kinds of notes....my problem is that I keep finding conflicting information and my head is spinning! Maybe its not conflicting...maybe I'm just getting myself all worked up, I don't know. Here's the scoop and here's my plan. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated! But be gentle if I sound like a total idiot from time to time. My brain is fried from so much information-gathering! I pulled all 3 reports. PROBLEM: I have a paid collection showing up on 2 reports. I had a dispute with the cable company and I paid them in the end just so they would go away (never got 1 month credit that I was promised.....went round and round for over a year.) Now they show this as being a paid collection with a CA that I've never heard of nor dealt with. PLAN: Dispute with CRA...if they verify - send nutcase. In the meantime, I was going to send a Goodwill letter to try to get it removed also. Should it be sent to OC or CA? PROBLEM: The rest are a few late payments on credit cards. (Autos and mortgages have never been late.) PLAN: Do Goodwill letters to all and see what happens. After I get those results, I will dispute as "not mine" and then "never late" with the CRA's. My dilemma is which ones I should really worry about disputing. The most recent late payments? Or the oldest? My fear is getting an old TL deleted when the late pays are so long ago that they probably don't matter much anymore. On the flip side, it bothers me that there are some late payments being shown on a couple accounts from 1997 and 1998 since I was never, ever late back then. My "true" lates are recent due to some financial problems. They have since been resolved. Thoughts? PROBLEM: One credit card shown as being closed due to grantor's request. What is the best plan for getting this removed? I don't care if the whole TL gets deleted, I just want this gone! Thank you! cbright
Correspondence should be sent to whomever is reporting it on your credit report. One step at a time, dispute with the CRA and see what happens. Late payments - its a coin toss. If your lates are from 97-98 the probably aren't hurting your score too much. If you dispute with the CRAs you do run the risk of the whole TL being deleted. How new are the newer lates?
All my recent lates are about a year old with one exception....a 6 month old 120 day late. That's impossible! Definitely going to dispute that one with the CRA. I'm just so confused on what to send to who and trying to nail them with violations, etc. There are a couple TL's that I wouldn't mind having removed completely. I have a large positive credit history that I think can more than make up for 2 or 3 minor store credit cards being deleted. I just counted it up....8 negs...19 pos. Thanks! cbright
