Middle of July I found out Equifart split my credit report into two files. They said it was my fault as my file was too big. This was a mixed blessing as my positive credit lines and negative credit lines were duplicated. At the time I was told by the customer service rep to dispute everything.

Being the smart person I am, I disputed my negative lines only. I sent in a dispute for my inquiries seperately. Ive got a good number of my negative items removed. I got a adjusted copy of one of the reports under one of my names today in the mail and called the 800 number on the report.

I asked for the one zillionth time for them to merge my reports. Again I was told my report was too big and nothing could be done. I bet that company pulls down a bajillion dollars a year and they cant buy proper software to report peoples file in which they make their money from.

While on the phone I asked the status of the disputes I had sent in on my inquiries. She told me a letter was being mailed out stating that Inquiries were a matter of fact and they could and would not investigate them . That i would have to contact the companies myself and get them to remove them. Now am I wrong in thinking that the Fair Credit reporting act requires them to reinvestigate ANYTHING a person thinks is inaccurate?

Im trying to get my ducks in a row and get my family out of this tinya$$ 965 sq apartment we are in now and into a real house. And this nonsense from them isnt helping. The customer service rep I spoke to today said my only recourse is to wait till some of this stuff falls off in 2 or 3 years. that is just utter bullpoopie.

I want to call and speak to some higher ups at equifart but I want to be armed with knowledge and know where I stand legally before I talk to them so I wont be lied to again and made to wait 2 or 3 years because of their crappy software

    Thanks alot for listening !!!

    /rant off

Your fatal mistake and incorrect premise: Phone calls; verbal communication with no record.

    Write.

I have numerous copies of my duplicate reports from the past few months. although I have no written record of my telephone conversations .

What can I do here? Do I need to just wait till they get good and ready to fix it themselves? Or can I force them to dispute the inguries?

Create a paper trail and sue them.

well Im on my well on my way to a good trail as I have three or 4 reports under each name from when this whole mess started back in July. How long should I wait till I pursue legal action? I would just like my file merged into one.and I would like ot have my inqueries disputed unless im barking up the wrong tree on this .

You COULD go to court with just your reports, but going to court with letters you wrote, their reponses in writing, and your reports would be better.

Yes, you have the right to call the credit reporting agency, if that's what you're getting at. And, yes, you shouldn't have to write everything down, but that's life.

FYI - My file was split by Equifax in Feb. (just as I was in need of a new car) and it prevented my lender from obtaining a credit score. The lender reported it to equifax through a special contact number they had, and about 2 weeks later my file was recombined.

(My file was split again in August.....and about 2 weeks later it was magically combined again.)

Soooo...if you're shopping for a mortgage, and you want to get it done quickly, have the lender pull your report and deal with Equifax themselves.
