What happens to all those people who have credit card and other bills and are convicted of a crime and sent to jail for many years?I dont think bill collectors will be calling them any time soon and by the time they serve their sentence the sol will probably be in place.I bet there are people in jail who were 50,000 or more in debt and when they get out they will be debt free.

Maybe and maybe not. If they got a judgment it could probably be renewed a time or two or three until they got out of jail. I doubt if many creditors would go that far however. They might renew once and then forget to do it again. Some states won't allow more than one renewal of a judgment.

If they plan on serving 10 years, they might as well declare bankruptcy while they are at it. Either way, they don't have to worry about receiving calls from debt collectors.

Most prisoners don't have the chance to do that.

At least the prisoner doesn't have to worry about too many inquiries, once there out!

Collection companies simply do not have the power to arrest anyone. Only a court of law can do that.

Debt collectors have been known to try that by going to the debtor's home dressed up like police officers and threatening to jail them for not paying their debts. The very few who have ever been dumb enough to try that trick usually end up getting jailed themselves before long.

Not many debt collectors are dumb enough to try that trick.
