Does anyone know the approval requirements ? This card seems as elusive as the AMEX Centurion, but much easier to get, I think.
I have the JCB standard card. I'm not sure what their requirements are. When I applied, I had 1 30 day late that was 5 yrs old. My score was approx 710. They checked TU. Their customer service is very good. However, they do not have 24 hr. service and they do not have online account access at this time. I think they are working on it though. The card is very nice looking and turns heads when I use it. Not many people have this card in the U.S. and some of the stores that accept it, don't know what it is. They tell me: "Sir, we don't accept this type of card". - and I'm like: "The decal on the door states you do. Just slide it through and see what happens.... Wow, what do you know. It works!!! LOL Hope this helps. Good luck if you decide to apply.
Miles, Didn't see a merchant list on the website (maybe missed it, just saw how to become an accepting merchant.) Would you be able to tell me some of the places that accept this card? I know that a lot of places in the airports do and I think some of the major dept. stores do but any help would be appreciated. I don't live in CA so I don't have that grocery store that they mention. I have always been curious about this card. I just forgot about it until it was mentioned here. It does seem to have a certain cachet.
I think Amazon.com accepts it. Don't know about other etailers. Cashback benefit looks good (full 1%) and the card definitely grabs people's attention.
I checked out they're website and noticed they offer a secured card for people getting started. Have no idea what score they want.
I have the JCB Mitsuwa card. Mine is secured, the pulled Experian and at the time it was horrible. I haven't had to pay the annual fee because I use it enough. As for merchants, there aren't very many (as compared to Amex or even Diners Club) but most travel related businesses--international hotel chains, airlines, car rental companies--accept it. Some of the more well known merchants: US Post Office, Sears, KMart, Mobil gas stations (NOT Exxon), Nordstrom and Limited. Yes, Amazon.com takes JCB.
Hi MandyB, When you go to the website, click on "credit cards" under "JCB cards" tab. Then click on any card product. Scroll down and click on "merchant information". There is a map that only lists some of the major cities, but if you click on the cities, it will give a list of merchants. If those merchants are available in your area too, you should be able to use the card. Also, on the main homepage, you can click the link to the right that says "JCB Mall". There is a list (and link) of some of the online merchants who accept the card as well. All of the merchants who accept JCB are not listed, so when you go to a store, look for the decal on the door. You may be surprised that a store or restaurant you frequent accepts the card. Now that I have the card, I do remember seeing the symbol before, but didn't know what it was at the time. Hope this helps you.
jonesing, Looks like the Mitsuwa card has good rewards as well. Have you ever been to the Mitsuwa marketplace? Just wondering what it is like. I may venture to the one in Chicago to check it out. The card is pretty nice looking. I bet it looks better in person. The website does not do the cards justice.
Well there's one problem with the card: it wears down pretty bad, oh sure the card was nice and shiny when I got it but now it's kinda dull. I've been to the Mitsuwa in San Diego once or twice. The nearest one to me now is about 2 hours away.
I know SEARS takes it...but I didn't apply... The max. credit limit is $12,000...KINDA' LOW Q: What is the credit limit? A: The credit limit can be as high as $12,000 but will be at least $1,000. Your credit line will be based upon our credit evaluation. We will assign you the highest credit line for which you qualify.
Now that I have looked more carefully at the site (thanks Miles!) I realize that I have been to the MITSUWA marketplace in Edgewater, NJ. For those who were asking, it's a large Japanese supermarket that carries (no surprise here) a million Japanese products. I really liked the health and beauty section b/c they had things that are usually sold only in Japan. On caution though, some of the packaging is only in Japanese so you have to kind of know what you're looking for, unless you read Japanese of course. I had a great time there and recommend it to anyone who has one nearby.
I just received this from JCB an hour ago. Thank you for contacting JCB. Unfortunately, in order for you to qualify for a JCB Card, your credit score must be at least 690. For your information, the following is the qualification: 1. Age - must be 18 years old or older 2. Employment Status - must be employed. Or must be over 62-year-old if retired. 3. Annual Income - $15,000 or over 4. must not have any major derogatory ratings in the last two years. (e.g. Charge-off, Collection Accounts, Bankruptcy, Judgment) Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you and best regards, JCB Card Cardmember Services
690 is pretty high score for a 1k cl. I'm going to guess that a secured card would also face some tough standards. -Best regards, Mirage
Picantel, Did you call them or e-mail them? If you e-mailed them, what info did you include? If you called, did they ask for a lot of info? Thanks.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you got the card (and at 690 a lot of people may be denied), wouldn't it help your ratios just having the card? For people that usually carry large balances, obtaining this card and not being able to use it EVERYWHERE could pay off substantially on credit utilization. Since you have to go specific places to use it, you won't use it as often and the CL will always be there and available. Seems like the perfect way to up your ratios on a card that's only good at a few locations. You won't be as tempted to charge it up because of where you might have to go to do that. Just my .03 cents, anyway..
