My credit is poor (mid 550's), and I have been using LLF to help. So far they have helped a little, but I keep getting things back from the big 3 telling me that either they know I am using a credit repair agency or that they need more identifying info to go any further....*sigh* To help out, my dad thought we could try to get me on one of his credit cards as a "joint user" not an AU. I figured whats the worst that can happen, all they can do is say no, so we filled out the paperwork and sent it in (First USA). His credit limit is around $35,000 and always has a ZERO balance (pays it off each month). Well, guess what happened....They approved me and sent me a platinum card with a $35,000 limit (joint user). I cut up the card right away so I can never actually use it, just benefit from my dad's credit. Heres my question. Will this help me out ? Will it show on my reports? If so, will it show the account as being several years old like on my dads reports ? Does this hurt, help, or neither. Thanks people
Hey Deputy, Having you listed as a joint holder, on a card that is several years old, with a high limit and never late should give you a boost. How much? Who knows. But it should help.
Hi, Deputy! Really impressed with your cutting up the card! Smart! My hubby's score went up when I added him to one of my established cards and it reflected on his credit report! Hope that helps!
Re: Joint user - hurting or helping Being a joint user will presumably help your score quite a bit. I went from a 657 to a 730 FICO score (Equifax) after my mom added me as an AU to her First USA card. It was 8 years, 11 months old, and had a $12k limit. Last week when it turned 9 years old, I gained an additional 13 points. Although since then an item in dispute was verified, so now I'm back down to 684.
