Ran across this article in my RSS feeds so put the whole story on my links page. The Federal Trade Commission cannot force practicing lawyers to comply with new regulations aimed at curbing identity theft, a federal judge ruled today at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The decision offers a reprieve to law firms across the country, which faced a deadline this weekend to put in place programs to meet so-called â??Red Flags Ruleâ? requirements. The rules would have forced firms to verify the identities of potential clients. Also, as a side note I have known for several months that ACA, The American Collectors Assn has been planning to put out videos telling all the good things debt collectors do to help those in debt. They want to try to clean up the public image of the collections industry. I've been trying to find those videos for several months now with no success but it looks like I won't have to look any more. Someone else has put up a web site that features 3 of the ACA videos and unless I miss my guess will put up more of them as they become available. There are also some other anti collector videos on the page.

Since ACA apparently has only 3 videos and there are already more than 5,000 videos out there complaining about debt collectors and the ways that other people try to deal with debt collectors ACA is going to have a tough time trying to get anywhere with their video campaign.
