In March 2006 a judgment for non-payment of rent was entered on my credit report. The judgment, however, was not monetary, it was entered because I did not show up for court. Backstory - my roommate was having financial issues with paying his rent. I mistakenly thought that since the debt was not mine, that I did not have to go to court. Well the judgment was paid by him, however it still ended up on my CR because I was on the lease. The management company provided me with a letter, and another to the court, that it was not a monetary judgment against me, but because I did not appear in court. It's not legal to have any other type of judgment on the CR then, right? If it's not monetary then there's no legal reason for it to be on my CR. I'm feeling a bit paralyzed at the moment, I apologize. *deep breath* So do I send copies of the letters (mine and the ltr sent to the courts asking for it to be removed) via certified mail, or do I dispute it online? Sounds like a stupid question, sorry. I have been reading so much about this over the weekend and I don't want to give them any extra ammunition because I didn't know what to "say" KWIM?
They need to vacate the judgment on your behalf. http://www.ejudiciary.com/ To cancel, annul, or render of no effect. If a judgment or other is vacated, it is as if the order or judgment were never signed. I hope this helps
