Hello everyone. Im still fairly new to this site and I thank each and every one of you for your advice. I think this question falls along the lines of credit so hopefully someone has some info for me. Give or take about 2 months ago, I received a letter from a law firm stating the former apt complex wanted to take me to court for not paying a portion of the last months rent. Although I was out of state and the other person was living there at the time and was supposed to pay it, it was still in my name so I took the fall. I am going to apply got an apt tomorrow, and I have no idea whats on my credit report because I havent gotten an updated one yet. Does anyone have any general information on how long it takes the state of MD to place a judgement from apartment complexes on your credit report? Or better yet, how long it could take ot hit your report in general? Although they didnt count it as an eviction, I assume any type of judgement will mess up chances for me. Also, this particular complex used a point system as opposed to checking your credit. I'd have to score a 300 or better in order to qualify. When I applied for an apt in California about 8 months ago, the point system they used scored me at a 325. I have no idea if this score still stands. Any info would be very helpful and appreciated!
Do you expect the new apt complex to contact the old apt complex for a reference? If so, they might disclose that you have an outstanding balance with them. Regarding a judgment, you should be able to search court records to see if anyone has filed a lawsuit against you.
