OK, in reading the posts I know that someone will be able to point me in the right direction. In 2000 a judgment was filed against me for $5300. Law Firm A contacted me after the filing and I made a few payments totaling $1200. However, no other payments were made and the balance with fees, interest etc is over $6000. I have been receiving letters but have not responded. Just recently Law Firm B contacted me asking me to settle for 70% of the orignal balance less the $1200, i.e. $2900. Within days of receiving that offer Law Firm A sent a letter with an offer to settle for 80% of the $6000. Which law firm should I really be working with? How can I tell who can actually satisfy the judgment? What's the best way to handle this in terms of my FICO (avg 600) and the least amt of $$$. Thanks!
Go to your county courthouse and get court certified copies of the judgment and then go make photocopies of those and send them to me or fax them to me and let me look them over to see if I can figure out a way to get the judgment voided. There are at least 22 reasons why a judgment might not be any good. I have posted those 22 reasons in another post but it does usually take experience to really be able to analyze them. It isn't a thing that can be done by just anyone without some training in most cases. Most folks can look at a judgment, have the reasons right before their eyes and still not realize it. Others can just take the list of reasons and figure it out pretty easy. I'll tell you what I think for free. I never charge for doing that because I'm not an attorney and I can't give you a legal opinion nor any legal advice so I can't charge you for doing it. Really isn't all that big of a deal anyway. Not if you know what you are looking for. There is a pretty fair chance I might be able to find fault for it and you can get some competent legal advice or you can learn how to handle the problem yourself. Whatever.
